Opera 10.51 is the last Opera for me

Opera shouldn't release such awful software as this. I've loved Opera and put up with its slight problems. With some websites not displaying correctly and the like. Because I knew it was improving.

But now I spend hours trying to access a page because Opera 10.51 just doesn't seem to want to load it. It just sits there.

It's terrible I'm going back to firefox so I can get on with what I want to do on the Internet, view websites and not wonder why Opera isn't working when other browsers do.

Opera should be focused on producing quality. Because the user base is small; releasing this junk will not win over more people. How can I say Opera is a good option when it doesn't even seem to want to load a web pages without a restart.

I had hoped that Opera would continue to improve as it was back in the day, now its just getting worse. And finally it seems to hit its peak and become unusable.

It's the slowest and least compatible browser on earth, well done.

Good riddance.

Will you continue to use Opera?

What I found highly amusing this morning was when I opened Opera and it automaigically upgraded itself (how do I stop it from doing that by the way? Anyone know?) the only two pages that it wouldn't load, and they hung there forever and ever, were two Opera.com pages =P

your poll isn't exactly unbiased, I like 10.51 a lot. what sites are you having trouble with?

That page makes opera crash.

No crash, but it made my Opera 10.52 (Linux) freeze.

I'm just coming back to Opera after around a month of trying out Chrome. Last year I gave Firefox a serious try for a couple of months.
With a handful or two of much needed extensions installed, I liked both - Chrome more so than FF - but even though both have fewer issues with certain sites than Opera, I'm just feeling vastly more at home in Opera in terms of interface customization and just the general behaviour and responsiveness in everything from tabs over hotkeys and mouse gestures to a bunch of other features.
Extensions for the other browsers attempting to mimicking these features just haven't felt quite right to me. A mouse gesture extension I was using in Chrome for instance doesn't work on "system" pages (like the speed dial), and it wasn't always properly responding until a page had finished loading.

As for 10.51 in particular, I love it so far. Most of the changes suit me very well, and aside from a few sites I visit regularly that don't work properly (can't log into Amazon.co.uk for instance, but I've got IE running most days anyway for iRacing, even Chrome had issues with rendering parts of that their interface) I haven't really come across any serious problems with 10.51.
For me the worst Opera release yet (I've been on board since version 7) was 9.50, which was almost as much a disaster for me as 10.51 seemingly is for people. That was when I took my two months with Firefox, and when I came back Opera was up to 9.6x and the issues I had had with 9.5 were mostly fixed.

I suspect I'll keep following the development of Chrome alongside Opera, but I can't really see myself trying Firefox again.

Edit: Oh, and I obviously didn't vote on that poll for reasons that should be rather obvious.

Preferences, Security, Auto-update.

Autoupdate 0 = off, 1 = notify me (default), 2 = auto

If it is set to 2 then it seems highly probable that you agreed to autoupdate when you last saw this dialogue. Autoupdates did not exist prior to Opera 10.0 and when they were first introduced this dialogue was shown (its from a clean installation of Opera 10.1). Many users may have clicked Download and Install and accepted the recommended auto-update. No one was forced to accept automatic updates. Automatic Updates

Should such polls be ignored:
1. Yes,... whatever
2. Yes,... whatever
3. Yes,... whatever

This poll is unusable. It doesn't have an option for "Yes, I will continue using Opera, and am not experiencing any large issues with it." That's what I would have voted for. I have not seen the NSL problem at all with Opera 10.5x. Maybe I'm just lucky. smile

Currently I'm using the 10.52 snapshots, but still, I've noticed several problems after updating to 10.51 and past that.
Can't really say it's a reason for me to stop using Opera, as every single browser runs into problems at times.
Also, knowing Opera, it will be fixed before long.

This is strange. Am I the only one that is having no problems with Opera? I don't have problems loading all kind of webpages, yes - there are some issues, some pages are not displayed correctly, but this is no pain that someone would die from.

I am using Opera since 7.x version and I have to tell you that the difference is noticeable, I am very glad that I am using Opera, since no other browser could offer me the functionality I am looking for. According to the latest results it is twice as fast as the other browsers, just Chrome is keeping the run..

If we look closely:
FF -> With all those memory leaks, page faults and all, this doesn't seems like something desirable. The main reason why FF is so popular is because it is open source (at some point) and other users could create addons for it. And also it was tightly related to Linux. The "popular" times are over. The people like more Opera and Chrome.

Chrome -> I don't like Google. They want to be everywhere and to make everything. It's just not right in some way. I am sure that they are even building weapons... Some day we will have TVs, PCs, ovens... with the G on 'em...

Safari -> Good browser, but still its better on Mac.

IE -> This one doesn't even qualifying in the browser family anymore..

JS still on? Default install? Do you have the pages failing to load problem?

I really wonder if this is IPv6 related...

Edit: Do you have Opera Link enabled?

JS on, default install and OL not enabled. Some minor and infrequent problems with page loading/hanging, but nothing serious. I've only been using Opera since 10.50 so I don't have much of a frame of reference.

Grrr that optus page has now changed from the original. The 'improvements' page showing now is not the one giving the problem.

I do hope you're right.

I've stuck with 10.1, after a brief experience of 10.5 when it just looked HORRIBLE. That taught me not to be one of the first through the door. It took me ages to find a copy of 10.1 and get it working. This forum wasn't much help - too many fanboys keen to evangelise and snarl at those of us offering feedback (or "whining" in the lingua franca). I pop in every few days to see if it's been fixed. I'd like to stick with proper Opera in the long term but, as they say, we do have a choice.

By the way, if you can still go into tools, choose preferences, then advanced, then security, you can turn off auto-updates. But I don't think it's an absolute safeguard because even after I did that I caught it trying to download opera 10.52.
