I already developed a youtube downloader widget.
It already can download videos from youtube but the are broken when being saved because widget can't download binary data.

If they would support XHR Level 2 downloading videos would be possible...

Its much more convenient to download videos using user JavaScript files. You can pick some at userscripts.org.
Different approach: Would it be possible to write a Unite App and combine it with a UserJS like the Unite UserJS Manager does?

Abusing Action Script in the Flash Object could help (just kidding)
How did they solve that problem in File Inbox?
Binary files can be uploaded in that application.
Pure speculation: There should be no big difference between me downloading something to my computer and someone else uploading files to my computer.
If everything fails there always could be the possibility of looking through the cache ...

I had a look on that application.
In File Inbox the user uploads the files on its own and these are sent to the server. So you can access an uploaded file via connection.request.files. That means you will get a File object which can handle binary data.
So recieving a file and downloading a file are two different things.
I already thought about searching in the cache for the right file but the widget uses the Opera cache. So the user would have to select another mount point linking to the Opera cache (so he would have to search manually for the Opera cache directory)...
