Best RSS Reader?
OK, I give up: since Opera is probably never going to give us increased flexibility with handling feeds, I need to go get a separate reader to handle them, so does anyone have any recommendations on what the best, free, RSS Reader is? He probably means stand-alone, not something bundled with IE
After Googling a bit, someone recommended this: http://www.sharpreader.net/
OT. wikipedian fix your sig it's broken. There's a green box next to your image for that inferior browser.
Better still drop the images altogether as you are not supposed to have images in your sig anyway.

What's wrong with Opera's RSS reader? It's the same as IE8 isn't it?

I know it's a hack as images are not allowed in signatures thus a hack is the only way round it.
Besides it's a bit much advertising another browser on a forum that is supplied free to you by Opera. I know other forums where links to other competing software is strictly forbidden.
The OP requested information of an alternative RSS reader so obviously he finds Opera RSS reader does not fulfil his needs in some way.

Folders would be very welcome, as would automatic deletion of feed entries after a set time.

I suppose that could come in useful with my BBC News feed (i.e. if I haven't read it after 3 days, get rid of it), but otherwise I can't think of much use for that.

Try subscribing to a place like Digg or Slashot and you should see the use of it after a week or two

Ah, yes. I'd think that's more a place you might wish to drop by now and then if it attracts to you than to subscribe to a feed though. But what do I know, it's too hectic and uncultured for me.

IE will keep getting bashed doesn't matter if it has "RSS folders"

Does it do Atom?

More importantly, does it do CSS3 and HTML5?
(well, we know the answer don't we.)
It's the most customizable thing that I know for that job.

I've heard good stories about it. I'm not really into portals though.

The biggest two problems I have with most RSS integrations into browsers is their inability to display headlines anywhere you want them, and the fact that they don't even provide a full story when I click the headline. Sometimes I just get one sentence. It seems odd to me to have an RSS reader that doesn't really do all that much more than simply visiting the website would do. The best advantage to RSS is being able to see a uniformly-displayed list of article titles.
I'd like to see a plain text news story when I click a headline in Opera Mail. I know it's a small thing: just click the link in Opera Mail and view the full story, but I thought the whole point of an aggregator was to load all the stories into your RSS reader so you can get an instant displaying of the story without having to wait for it to load from the internet on another page. Of course, I know why plain text versions of all these news stories are not provided in most RSS feeds: because if they were, we wouldn't visit the originating websites and see all those glorious advertisements. After all, people are useless to a website if the visitors don't use the ads to buy something. Those websites simply tolerate non-buying visitors since they know the only way to even have a chance at selling something is to let everyone visit--even the freeloaders who don't want to spend any money. Interesting is that ClariNet news is posted for free to the clarinet.* usenet newsgroups, but of course, having more than one source for news gives you a better chance at seeing more about what's going on in the world. ClariNet doesn't carry everything.
