"Control+N" and Home Page?
I set Opera (and my other browsers) up to open new links as windows (I just don't like tabs), and Opera does this just fine. The only issue I have is that when I press "Control+N" for a new window (I dislike clicking icons, and prefer keyboard shortcuts when available), Speed Dial comes up in that new window, and I want my default Home Page: http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0 to come up instead (and not just as one of the choices on Speed Dial, but as my home page--period). I found the setting to hide Speed Dial, but now "Control+N" only brings up a window with a blank page--still not my home page. I've searched this Forum and found references to adding one's home page to the choices in Speed Dial, but I could not find any reference to replacing Speed Dial with one's home page. Does anyone know if it is possible (and if so, tell me how) to configure Opera 10.10 such that "Control+N" brings up a new window with my home page (and ONLY my home page) in one step? (Yes, I know I can press the Home icon on the blank page to bring up my home page, or add my home page to my Favorites and click on Favorites and then select my home page, but I'm looking for a one-step keyboard shortcut in Opera 10.10 that works the same way "Control+N" does in Internet Explorer, FireFox, SeaMonkey, etc., -- basically all other browsers in both Windows and Linux).I found http://my.opera.com/Tamil/blog/how-to-open-new-tab-with-homepage-in-opera but I still do not understand how to open a new window (using "Control+N") that defaults to my home page (remember, I do NOT do tabbed browsing).
Thanks, anyway.
If this is possible, maybe someone else can give me a step by step explanation of how to do this in Opera 10.10?

I just tried it following Tamil's instructions on this page: http://my.opera.com/Tamil/blog/add-modify-keyboard-shortcut
Use Ctrl + F12 to get to your preferences, then click on the Advanced tab and select shortcuts. Under Keyboard setup, I had Opera Standard, Opera 9.2 Compatible, and Opera Standard for UNIX (I'm using OpenSolaris). Tamil suggests making a copy of Opera Standard with the Duplicate button. I chose to Edit Opera Standard which created Opera Standard (Modified) after OKing the change.
1. Select Opera Standard and click the Duplicate button which will create "Copy of Opera Standard".
2. Select "Copy of Opera Standard" and click the Edit button.
3. Click on Application and scroll down to n ctrl and select; then press the Edit button. n ctrl will be highlighted; press Tab on your keyboard and "New browser window" is highlighted.
4. Add at the end of New browser window, add " & Go to homepage". Options will appear as you type. After you have typed in Go, you can select "Go to homepage". It should now read "New browser window & Go to homepage".
OK the changes and Ctrl + n will now open a a new window with your homepage.

Thank you very much. "Control+N" now opens a window with my homepage. BUT, if Opera already has a window open, clicking on the Opera program icon brings up a blank page! Anyway, it's better, although still not as good as other browsers that understand "Open new (Tab/Window) in home page" means exactly that and don't make you jump through hoops or pull up hidden features.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

In Opera browser I simply cannot set Google or Ask as my home page on browser start up(when browser opens.) All i get is the Opera home page, which I do not like. I do not have this problem with other browsers. also there is no tools or preferences browser preferences settings and other browsers have this,Opera does not. Also my images have dissapeared and web pages do not display correctly.Settings on Opera need to be made user friendly before I will go back to using this browser again. I am sorry to say that i have had to choice but to uninstall and delete Opera from my computer because of all these problems,I cannot resolve. All most people want is a simple browser that works properly, there are many advanced browsers and I do have some of these but NONE of them causes the problems I have mentioned here. Also videos do not play well on Opera. So I will not be using Opera again, unless they change the settings and make it simpler and user friendly, which it is not. I think Opera was made more for webmasters and more experienced users of soft where, rather than for ordinary people. Andrea.
I am using another browser now as Opera is too complicated for me to get on with.I think they need to make a simpler version simular to Google Chrome or Firefox and settings the same as these. At least with Google Chrome or Firefox, you know where you are and the browsers work good. Andrea.

It seems that you have made no attempt at all to resolve them. Your first two posts on this forum, simply complaining about how difficult you find it to configure Opera, but no mention of having searched the forum or read the help file.
As far as I can tell from your rambling post, which has little to do with this thread, you need to do two things: set your home page, and restore the default menu.
- Setting your home page is simple. Go to the page you want to use, and from Preferences (default Shortcut Ctrl F12), General, click on "Use current."
- To reset the default menus. Click the big O-menu button to reveal the menu, and select "Show menu bar."

On the O-menu, there is a Settings submenu, fourth from the bottom, above Help, and Show menu bar.also there is no tools or preferences browser preferences settings
