Pls help - Opera generated 125,000+ temp files - approx. 4GB!!!
Hi,I have a weird problem. I noticed Opera was working slower and slower on my computer as months passed by (at upgrades I always chose a refresh install rather than a clean install)... Also, it took more and more memory (initially 50-60MB, nowadays 3-400MB(!))... I also noticed that virus scanning took longer and longer... And finally, I noticed, that Opera seemed to shut down weirdly long - after using Opera for a few hours when I clicked the close button although Opera window disappeared but Task Manager showed Opera for 10-15 minutes(!) longer in the memory, using 2-5% CPU time, and also, it used VERY heavily the HDD during these 10-15 mins long shutdown times. Sometimes I closed Opera and tried to shutdown Windows and I got a message that Opera is still running and had to wait 10-15 mins before Windows could shout down...
So I had enough of this and I systematically started to look for Opera-related files on the HDD - after all, I thought, Opera should be doing something in that 10-15 minutes with the HDD, as the HDD LED was flashing continuously during these times... And then I found this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name Here\Local Settings\Application Data\Opera\Opera\Cache\Sesn\
I found this folder had a size of 4.1GB(!!!), containing over a thousand(!!!) subfolders and 125,757(!!!) temp files in these subfolders altogether!!! This is weird as in Opera settings the HDD cache is set to 20MB (by the way memory cash is set to 20MB too so it is weird how could it grow 3-400MB in memory and 4+ GB on HDD). I took about 20 minutes(!) to delete all of these files. After that I checked C: drive with Defrag and it looked a complete mess like if a bomb exploded on it, EVERYTHING was very fragmented - took about 30-40 minutes to defragment the drive... Since that Opera (and Windows, and Virus Scanner) works a lot-lot faster, but again, I noticed that this folder is again already around 80MB in size, which is more than the 20MB allowed by its settings. Also, I set Opera months ago to clear memory and HDD cache each time I close the application. So how could the files still be there?
So please give me some advice how to prevent Opera from growing this large in memory and especially on HDD. I think NO APPLICATION EVER SHOULD PRODUCE 4+ GB and 120,000+ TEMP FILES. This is actually many times more than the whole Windows and Program Files folders and their subfolders altogether! Is this a bug in Opera? Is there a fix? Or is there a hidden setting? Any solution? Firefox never had such a problem like this...
Thank you in advance,
Attila

I had a experienced a similar problem about a week or two ago.
I was doing my regular clean up of unnecessary files with Easy clean, normally Easy cleaner might report about 15-20 unnecessary files, but this time it reported over 800!
On closer inspection the vast majority of the files were Temp Opera related files, Easy Cleaner froze when trying to delete these files(I assume the number of files was too great as Easy Cleaner never normally freezes when deleting unnecessary files).
I had to manually search for the Opera folder and delete the contents that way.
The only difference I can think of was that I stated saving a number of browser "Sessions" for the first time.
