Opera Mobile 10 Final keeps making my Nokia 5800 freeze up

Hi, I have a Nokia 5800 running on S60 v5, and when I downloaded the latest version of Opera Mobile for symbian, my phone just freezed up and it wouldnt restart properly either, I had to take the battery out to make it work again at all.

Inspite of this I tried it again, and it seemed to work ok, until it all froze again, this time when I was trying to search the BBC website for travel information. Again I had to remove the battery and restart several times to get the phone to work again. It has done this every two days, so I have decided to uninstall it and use Opera Mini 5, which is good, but not as good as Opera 10 was when it was working.

Any ideas? Or is an Opera 10 v2 coming out soon? Looking at the previous threads it seems that the beta version had similar problems.

When it was working it was very impressive, and all web pages seemed to load correctly (unlike some on Opera Mini, but that is a different thread ..) so I hope it is sorted out soon.

Thanks Opera team for any help / advice and for your work on these browsers.

hi smile

Thanks for reporting your issue.
However, I don't seem to be able to reproduce, so maybe you could provide me with some more information?
Does this happen every time you visit the BBC travel page?
Does it happen on any other pages?
Do you have multiple tabs open?

Thanks smile

same here in n95-1. the crash is really random, no regular pattern, can be frozen or reboot. When use OM10beta2, it freeze the phone in case of working w email in OWA, googling w wifi, etc.
in case OM10final, crash really random in anytime. any way to reduce crash.

I have the same problem, just installed on a Nokia 5800 and crashed the system straight away. As I can resort to Opera Mini I am reluctant to start experimenting on Opera Mobile to see if I can discern a pattern to the crashes - I cannot afford the time right now to having to reboot my system.

But to the Opera team ... thanks for all your work. Having Opera on my mobile (Symbian), laptop (Kubuntu) and desktop (Vista) with all of its features many of which are an integral part of my work style and being able to synchronize across platforms is wonderful.

Now if only we could have an English (instead of American) spell check *sighs* smile

I face the same problem on my Nokia 5230 (same platform). It happens randomly but even when opening single window. It is quite frustrating, added that opera mini is still having server issue that keeps 'forgetting' anything put in web page's input box.

Hi guys,

I have a 5800XM and have been experiencing similar issues. The installation went ok, however my speed dials, bookmarks, web history kept disappearing and it was like the program returned to factory settings. Sometimes I even had to accept the license agreement.

I've managed to reduce this occuring significantly by opening Opera Mobile via the Applications menu (I used to open it from a shortcut on the Home screen). When I have finished browsing and I close Opera Mobile it returns to the Applications menu and I can see that Opera Mobile is still running (circular loading icon next to application. Opera Mobile takes a few seconds to close). Once it has closed then I continue working with my phone as normal and the next time I open Opera Mobile all my settings are still there.

Another thing I have come across is people saying that it's a conflict between the Nokia 5800's sensors (e.g. flipping to landscape) and Opera Mobile. I tend not to use landscape while browsing so I can't say for sure that this is an issue in my case.

I hope this helps.

Strange - I've never had any problems on my 5800. But I'm still on 10 beta2 waiting for the team to solve the known connections problems with final. Is it worth reverting to 10 beta2?

I'm having massive problems on my Nokia N97 mini too - sites hang, phone crashes etc on Opera Mobile. Have had to take battery out a few times. Normal websites too, eg BBC, British airways heathrow airport etc. Sometimes with only one tab open too.

feel strange too. S60v3, now v5 still suffer from hang, crash, reboot problem seriously. for me OM10v2 crash a lot. Nokia should really pay more effort on OS

I have the same problem with my N97 (S60v5 Firmware v2.1 vodafone UK) and Opera 10 Final. it was unusable in firmware version 2.0 and locked up almost constantly but with the latest firmware its a lot better but still freezes frequently. For me it seems more prevalent when browsing mobile versions of sites e.g. slashdot.org/palm etc. and when it happens it either freezes the phone solid for a number of minutes or locks its sin such a way that pulling the battery is the only way to recover. It can happen almost instantly or after browsing for a fair time with no way of predicting if and when the freezes will occur. (This problem also occured with beta 3 with but beta 2 never exhibited this issue this was with fw v2.0 as the newer v2.1 wasn't available at the time)

here some precautions to avoid messing up ur phone

always install opera mobile 10 on phone memory that is C:/ leaves no chances for memory corruption crashes

don't multi task when browsing, i repeat close all other apps

seriously turn off your theme effect it saves around 10% ram. use simple and default theme and homescreen theme (basic one).

this is important, when browsing full websites(not the mobile ver) limit yourself to one tab. strictly one tab policy or you inviting locked up phone

these all cases seems to low ram issue as u know s60 v5 devices shiped with 128M ram and after booting you left with 35 to 45 mb.

Is there anyway to download Opera 10 beta? I've reverted to Symbian for now even though there are many things I don't like about it. "Freezing" is just too much for me.

I´ve got the same problem here with a Nokia 5800 and Opera Mobile 10.

Previously I had the problem where after closing Opera it was reset to its initial state when the Welcome screen appears.

This problem was solved by upgrading the firmware of my nokia 5800 from version to version 31 to 50 but now he has come this problem and is quite annoying to have to remove the battery to be able to reuse

After another freeze on my 5800 I was able to operate with great difficulty, a task manager (Handy Taskman) and saw that has only 3 megs of free RAM, so it seems to be a problem with the RAM memory management, after closing Opera through the task manager it came back to be about 50 MB free RAM

i been getting random freezes alot too, on my 5800 with v40 firmware (happened with older firmware too). it's annoying cause the crashes make me have to take the battery out for a reset. too think that final release would be more stable than the beta.

I am having lockups too on my 5800. I am on the latest firmware. It often dies if the phone does an auto-screen-lock... i move the slider to unlock and the phone is often unresponsive.

edit: phone froze for a minute whilst editing this message! no other tabs or apps open at the time. it did come back to life... but opera had closed itself.

Hi, everyone.

I´m trying to use opera mobile 10 final on my nokia 5530 since weaks ago, but this same error happens ramdomly. This make freeze up the phone and... Well.. The last time my contacts bar disappears and i have to do a master reset to recover it :)

I would like to notice too that on most times that this happens, itś just when trying to download any files.. The crash displays ”full memory” related error.. (i don´t remember exactly what)

ADDED NOTE: so happens when rotating the phone to view a fullscreen QWERTY keyboard, sometimes the opera browser close without notice, but the phone isn't freeze up on this case.. the browser just close quickly..

I like opera.. It´ s the better mobile browser to me :)

So i´m trying to help with my report..

Thank you for paying attemption ;)

I have random phone freezing when using opera mobile too. This didn't happen in Nokia browser or Opera Mini. After several minutes Opera Mobile will turn itself off and the phone becomes responsive again. It frequently happens when browsing sites like engadget, gizmodo and others with lot of pictures and stuff. I can activate a task manager program, but it works only when opera browser shuts itself down. It is showing wery little free RAM, usually 1-2MB.

Similar Problem here.
Using Opera Mobile 10.00 Build 499 on Nokia 5800XM Firmware 50.0.005
I start OM. When I open the first web page Opera Link starts synchronizing and OM eventually freezes.
I can close OM via long press on red phone-button though. No need to remove battery.
This renders OM completely useless for me cry

I installed Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta on my phone.
I started OM, went to settings and set up Opera Link.
Opera Link started synchronizing.
I left settings.
I opened my MyOpera Blog via Speeddial.
I logged in into MyOpera.
I closed the tab and... the green synchronize icon appeared and OM froze worried

I'm having the same "random" freeze problem, It seems to me it's related to memory. After an Opera freeze, the phone remains very unresponsive, and sometimes the only way to close Opera is turning off and on again. If you can manage to close Opera, it works again and no reboot is necessary.
It's a 5230 firm v20

It happens on my N5800XM too. Seems to be caused by short periods of inactivity that cause the screen to dim. Sliding the slider then makes the screen flash back up for a tiny period of time and then the phone is all jammed up and needs the battery out to reset. It's a shame as I quite like mobile when compared to mini - seems more capable with complex websites etc.

I have the same problem.
I'm using Nokia N97 mini and Opera Mobile 10 final.
My phone starts freezing after I browse some webpages.

For example, I'm starting to browse Facebook, then on the same tab, back to start page then browse Twitter. Back to start page again and starting to browse My Opera. Continue like this and the Opera Mobile starts freezing (of course, my N97 mini too).

I'll try the Opera Mobile 10.1 beta, then.
Hope this can be solved.
Thanks for Opera team.
