Set Opera as standard browser does not work

I'm not sure if this is the exactly the same since I don't use the English version, but in Preferences -> Advanced -> Programs, the "Check if Opera is the standard browser" does not work, either in 10.51, or 10.10. This annoys me, as 10.10 is set as my standard browser, so when I uninstall that, my computer does not get that I have a browser at all. When I try to open "Internet", it just asks me what kind of program to open the file with.

Windows XP SP3.

Also, I did a search and came up with nothing, but it's a BIG forum, and I got over a hundred matches, but none that seemed to be about this particular problem.

For Opera 10.51 n Preferences, Program, Details, set Opera as the program to open HTML documents.

Hey, thanks. up

Still doesn't ask me when I start up, though.

I presume that its checking and finding that Opera is the default application, so what should it ask you? “Do you want to make Firefox your default internet application?”

I have both Opera 10.1 and 10.51 installed. If I set them both to check, they both ask, but only if the other one is currently set as the default.

Yes.

Me too, and 10.1 was set as the default browser, meaning that clicking links and so on would open up 10.1, even though I was currently using 10.51. It was a bit annoying. However, selecting 10.51 to handle HTML documents made it work. ^^

Correction to my statement above: It should ask me whether Opera should be used as standard, not Firefox. What does Firefox has to do with this?
---
I don't get it, I install 10.53 next to 10.10, which is my standard browser, and I very carefully choose not to select 10.53 as the standard browser, yet when I press a link, 10.53 opens up! -__-

I also went in the Preferences (10.10), checking "check that Opera is default on startup" or whatever, and it doesn't ask me. I also set it to handle HTML and XML documents. So what could be wrong?
