Regressions 10.10 --> 10.51 (Win)
I've been using Opera for many years (at least since version 3.x) and this release has to be one of the most problematic.
Below are the issues I have noticed, I would appreciate knowing if anyone has a workaround for these. (I am also a sysadmin and IT consultant, and these issues are preventing me from feeling willing to upgrade any of my client's boxes until I feel the release is stable)
1) No more "Enable Java" option in site preferences. I have had Java disabled by default on my browsers for years, and the day I installed 10.51 was the first time some page I've never been to before started up a Java applet and started updating the Java "cache". (Is this the JRE? The dialog box at the time really didn't make this clear.)
I do NOT want Java to run on ANY page unless I specifically allow it.
2) More often than not, "open in new tab" does not work.
3) Seeing a significant number full crashes now, where the browser completely dies. This hasn't happened to this degree since at least as far back as version 8 or so, I would say.
4) Using the search box now results in the search engine selector opening a completely full-screen list, which is A) annoying and B) inconvenient because it completely covers up the page I was in, and forces me to shift my gaze all the way across the screen from where I entered the search string, in order to pick a search engine, which slows me down substantially.
5) No direct "restore" option for a tab. Normally I maximize all tabs within the Opera UI, but I frequently use a site that opens an IM window un-maximized, which I often maximize, then sometimes restore. Maybe this is related to the removal of the "MDI-like" tabs. I have to right-click the tab to restore.
TIA, Phil
1) I found another discussion on the Java issue. Very unfortunate, since Java has always been such a reliability and security problem, that I basically have to disable all plugins in order to disable Java by default.
Very very disappointing.
5) Found discussion on the MDI issue, apparently the per-tab/window buttons "may" come back in a future release. Sigh.
