Problem initializing Opera Mail
Hello,I have updated my Opera version to 10.51 lately, and now each time I open Opera, the following error message pops up:
There was a problem initializing Opera Mail
engine init() failed.
Now the mail panel has disappeared and I can't get access to Opera Mail. Even the mail accounts option in the toolbar is written in grey and not accessible.
Did anybody encounter this problem and knows how to solve it?
If you open your OS's task manager and the Opera process is indeed not running when you try to launch Opera, some of the mail fails may be corrupted. If that's the case, not sure how to fix the corruption. You'll have to back up your mail folder to somewhere safe, delete the mail folder and start fresh. Then, you can goto file -> import and export -> import mail and try to use the import Opera 7/8/9/10 importer. But, that may not work and you'll need to wipe the mail folder again, set up your accounts manually and use the generic mbox importer to import the store/accountN folder that corresponds to the mail account you just set up and choose to import into the existing account that you just set up. You will lose your feeds to.
You can of course wait for others to post ideas before trying the above.
If you're using IMAP and no feeds or newsgroups, you can just wipe the mail folder and set up your IMAP accounts again.

Opera is well running in the task manager.
I am using IMAP and I would like to set up my account again, but the Tools>Mail and Chat Accounts is written in light grey and I can't click on it anymore.
I'm afraid the only option is to reinstall Opera, but if possible I'd rather not.
Thank you anyway for trying to help.
Anybody else has any idea?

If you just have an IMAP account, close down Opera and delete the mail folder. While you're at it, delete the cache, opcache and temporary_downloads folders too.
Also, you should reset your menus and toolbars by deleting the ini files in the menu and toolbar folders.
See Help -> About Opera for the locations.
Then you must kill it before you start Opera.

When I try to delete the mail folder, the following error message pops up (it's in French so sorry for the poor translation):
"Impossible to delete index.ini. Data error (cyclic redundancy control)"
The same kind of error appeared when I tried to delete a folder called g_0003 in the cache folder.

I restarted the PC but could not solve the problem, so I decided to save my personal settings and to delete all Opera folders from my disk. But it went on with this CRC error when I tried to delete some folders (mail, cache and widget). I tried to delete them using the safe mode, but same problem. So I had to do a chkdsk /r. It took some time but when it was completed, I could finally get rid of those folders without any CRC error message. I don't know where the error came from though...
Now I reinstalled Opera and hope I won't have this problem anymore.
By the way, I like the new default skin very much !
