Can't open or find attachments in received emails.

Opera version: 10.51 Build 3315
Platform/operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Are you using IMAP or POP3? POP3
Which e-mail service are you using? ISP is www.clear.net.nz

When we receive an email on the Opera Mail client with an attachment (eg a PDF file), the icon for the file shows in the message header section (grey section with Subject: From: To: Attachnment).
When we try to open the file it just either opens a blank screen in another tab in Opera, or if you try to open it using the "Open with" option in the drop down box and electing the appropriate application (eg Adobe Reader for a PDF file) I get an error message "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found".
Also, I have tried saving the attachment to my PC (various locations including the download folder under my document or directly to the desktop) but there is no file saved.

Any ideas or assistance will be appreciated.

Welcome to the My Opera community!

Close down Opera and delete your cache and temporary_downloads folders. See Help -> About Opera for the locations.

Then, try upgrading to the latest 10.52 snapshot as it contains lots of fixes for attachments.

Further, in tools -> preferences -> advanced -> downloads, for any types that don't open correctly, edit the type and set its action to what you want.

Also, make sure you're using the newest version of Adobe reader.

If things still dont work, does the filename for the attachment have spaces in it?

Finally, if things still don't work, try with attachments in newer messages.

I have the same issue (Windows XP SP2, Opera 10.51 build 3315). It is not related to file types, it is simply impossible to save, open or forward (!) any attachment. I have been using Opera for 6 years but since I get all my jobs in attachements I need to switch to something else if it can't be resolved soon. It only happened with the latest update (which I am not too fond of anyway). Sending attachments is OK.
If anyone had this problem and knows a solution please let me know, thanks a lot.

Hi all.
The post that --burnout426-- published solved that issue for me. I did two things: First, File - Configurations - Clear Private Data. (May not be this exact path and words. I am translating, because my opera is in Portuguese).
Then i accessed "Help -> About Opera" for the locations of cache folder. I manually deleted the content of that folder, and restarted opera.

Problem solved wink

As burnout426 points out - clear out all of that cache that was corrupted by 10.50\10.51 and install 10.52 snapshot.

(Or, like me, be a chicken and hide behind 10.10 until there is an official release of the 10.52 code)
Happy Opera user since v3.5x back in the previous Century
