How to back up OM5 data

This tip is specifically for those of you who are running the native WM version of Mini 5. I don't know anything about the Java versions:

If you want to back up your bookmarks and speed dials in case of a hard reset and reinstallation, etc., there's no need to sync anything. Simply go to Opera Mini 5's program folder and copy the entire subfolder ds, as well as the file datastore.ini, to a backup location of your choice. Alternatively, you could just copy the entire Opera Mini 5 program folder intact, which takes very little time or storage space.

If you do this backup regularly, it's best to delete the previous backup first, as it may contain old data files that are no longer in use by the program.

Unfortunately this is very difficult or even impossible on phones like Sony Ericsson K800i.

Sorry, I've never used the newer versions of the WinMo OS, nor am I even using Mini on a phone, so I don't know what file management is like for phone users.

This is a 3-year-old PDA; I guess I'm just one of those people who would rather fight than switch. The software I've collected for this thing can do just about anything imaginable except for dialing a phone number. wink

I have a mobile phone, too, but it's a very basic Samsung model, and what I do with it is pretty unusual by today's standards -- I use my phone for making phone calls. doh lol

It is possible..all you need is mobyexplorer java app..after installation of moby exp move the desired app to the memory card, enter the the mem. card using moby exp. highlight the system folder, click on properities then uncheck the box next to 'hidden' and you'll get full acces to the java apps database as the 'system' folder becomes visible in the phone's native file manager under the 'other' folder..tested on k800i,w902,c905 etc..and..yup..this way the impossible becomes possible and its also quite easy to perform the trick bigsmile

Personally, I think minicommander is a better manager app. It allows you to edit packed/zipped files without unpacking them.

I agree...but for this backup operation mobyexplorer is enough and much simple to work with it..mini com. it is a bit too complex for beginners in this kind of system stuff..also there's a couple more j2me manager apps you can try : blue ftp (my fav,get it from medieval.it) and sefm which is verry similar to moby explorer.
Sorry for goin offtopic.
