Opera Mini and automatic use of available internet connections

I am using Opera Mini 5 on a Nokia N97 (RM-505) with Symbian S60v5. There is a problem where Opera Mini will not connect to the internet if the connection in use changes. Many apps requiring an internet connection will use the "Internet" location, which includes any WLAN, GPRS or other connections, and so will connect using whatever service is available. Opera Mini however requires the connection to be set in the following setting:

Settings>Application Mgr>Installed Apps>Opera Mini 5 Beta 2>Access Point

In my case I have this option set to my mobile network (Three UK). However the Three UK network also 'piggy backs' on the Orange UK network for additional coverage. So occasionally my network will change to Orange UK, and then Opera Mini loses the internet connection. This also happens when I want to use a WLAN connection at home, and Opera Mini will not connect automatically to the WLAN, if available.

Is there any way to set Opera Mini to automatically connect to the internet using whatever connection is available? If not, will this feature be added in the future? Thanks.

Set Internet access permission to 'always ask' (only for socket) or alter the DNS if your ISP allow free routing (proxy from internet settings must be disabled). Still I don't know how 'piggy backs' thing will react but this should be your options.

Thanks for the reply, but this doesn't really solve the problem.

It needs to automatically switch connections, as the network will switch very often depending on the coverage. A box asking to select connection this often would not be helpful. Other applications use the "internet" location on Symbian, which automatically uses whichever connection is available. Why this isn't an option for Opera Mini?

No solutions to this?

You could ask for help in Symbian OS forum for certain internet settings but it seems that you have connectivity problems with 3uk provider. Btw connection can't be changed just like that between orange and 3uk 'antennas' when you are in the middle of something - like page loading - because that is under your ISP (wap) gateway controll.

I asked about this same issue a while back and basically got the answer that Opera Mini cannot be set to switch internet connections depending on which is available. As I understand it this is a restriction that applies to all Java applications that have to have a specific access point set in the "suite settings" menu. Opera Mobile does not have this restriction as it is a full-fledged native application.

For this reason I have both Opera mini and mobile installed. I set Opera Mini to use the access point I have access to most often, and use Opera Mobile if I want to use other access points.

You can set two proxy active for internet/java but connection will never be active on your browser and only a false shadow will appear instead, althought different phone browsers/sw means different approaches and solutions.
