email client not working

I'm a very long term opera user, and have been using the internal email client for years. The last opera update (I have 10.51) seems to have blown a fuse or something. Opera tries to send/receive mail, but nothing comes or goes. My RSS feeds are working, however. I'm running an XP box, POP (from comcast, gmail). This is very annoying irked ; any ideas to fix?

Welcome to the My Opera community!

First thing to do is goto tools -> Mail and chat accounts -> account -> edit -> servers tab and reapply your settings (including your username and password).

You could also close down Opera, delete your cache, opcache and temporary_downloads folders. See Help -> About Opera for the locations.

You can also try the latest 10.52 snapshot. It has fixes for lots of mail stuff.

You can also manually inspect accounts.ini (in the mail folder) with a text editor to see if the settings look correct.

You can enable logging for both pop and smtp to see what errors you get (by checking the logs in a text editor).

If all else fails, you can try downgrading to what you had before. Or, you can try installing Opera separately with a fresh profile and fresh mail folder etc. and import into that.

It appears that my port settings for both incoming and outgoing got messed up. Not having any idea what they were supposed to be, I had to fire up outlook (which I don't use, but in this case was useful) and see what the correct settings were. Not sure why things got messed up. Username and passwords were ok however. Caveat emptor.

Thanks for the feedback.

Oh, and before the upgrade, I was using opera 9.xxx- not sure which release (but it *was* a later one), so it wasn't a huge step up.
