Manage Search Engines window unexpectedly opened
I have suffered this at least twenty times until I found what was happening.Type something in the search bar so you can see the dropdown list.
Now move the mouse over the Manage Search Engines... item.
If you press the Enter key Opera will open the Manage Search Engines window instead of doing a search using the selected search engine.

Am I the only one who has suffered this problem?

Maybe you're the only one to suffer from this problem. I would say that it is the expect behaviour to search with the highlighted search engine, or to open the manage search dialogue if you highlight that and press enter. That is certainly what I would expect if using the keyboard to highlight the items on the drop list.
Its also what happens in my DTP program when I highlight a font in a drop list using the mouse and press enter, so I don't think it is a bug at all.

I see you have not tried what you are saying.
If you leave the mouse over one of the search engines and press Enter, Opera does NOT use that search engine, it still uses the one you had previously selected. But if you leave it over the Manage Search Engines item, it opens the Manage Search Engines window.
Only the Manage Search Engines and the Show X more... (in the addressbar) items work like this.
I agree that if you use the keyboard to highlight the items on the drop list it should pick that option but not with a mouse hover.
When I'm typing I usually move the mouse down so the mouse cursor does not hide any text in the text field but that doesn't mean I want to select anything. I think that's a common behavior.
