I have posted about this in the "3347" release thread. For me on my laptop build 3347 has problems with the personal bar and favourites marked to appear. They are fine for me until the browser is closed and then they ALL disappear and have to be placed back each time. Going back to the previous build resolves this on my laptop.
On my other main desktop PC (both running W 7 x64) they work fine and behave normally without disappearing with build 3347.

Is this caused by the new "feature" that deletes all of the duplicate bookmarks?
I am still on 10.10, so this knowledge is based on what I have read. There seems to be a new "feature" that will comb through all of your bookmarks and then DELETES any duplicates found. The excuse for this I have read is it was needed to make sure Opera Sync worked correctly.
I guess you are like me, and have a main set of bookmarks. And then some bookmarks duplicated onto the personal bar. I am guessing that it is these duplicates you are seeing disappearing. Try searching for one of your missing bookmarks - if you find it, you may be able to change the properties to "Show on Personal Bar"

Yes, the new Opera will delete dup bookmarks . Also it will prevent you from adding dups by accident. If you try to create a dup it will reference the property window of that bookmark. You can add it to your panels at that time .

Not me. That's why I use whole folders on the Personal Bar, too. I've also cleaned my bookmarks on a regular basis before the latest snapshots [using Sync, AMDeadlink, and manually].
The current and the previous builds have been slightly problematic about bookmarks on other counts, too; sometimes bookmarks/bookmark folders jump randomly around. I've had it that I was sorting some bookmarks and others jumped out of their folders into the main level. Today, when I opened a bookmark folder, another one [incidentally the one disappearing from the PB regularly] jumped into that folder.
I don't want to drag this off topic, so have created a new post to help me get my head around this new Bookmark Format. I need to edit my bookmarks to conform to the new layouts instead of letting Opera do it automatically and make a mess of it. Missing folders of bookmarks sound worrying to me.

Have you ever done a comparison on the bookmarks.adr file? Before and after you get these magic changes? Maybe a pattern can be spotted.

On my Laptop it was a completely fresh install with newly created favourites to appear on the personal bar. It was these that kept disappearing on each start of the browser.
mmm- thought that I might have had something with turning sync on or off.
So I installed this latest build again on the laptop and tried with sync "on" and then "off" either way with the change it made no difference to the disappearing bookmarks on the personal bar.
I tried disabling "sync for bookmarks" and "sync for personal bar" and neither one or the other, or both, would allow the browser to retain the bookmarks on the personal bar once the browser was closed and then reopened.
There are no duplicated bookmarks.
Going back to build 3333 and it works perfectly well.

Have you tried looking in your bookmarks.adr file? It can be opened with notepad.
Try watching the file and see if you can see a pattern. You should see the bookmarks appear in the file just after you add them to the toolbar. My guess is they will then disappear from the file again as you close opera. Somehow it thinks that as Sync is off, it should revert to the previous bookmark state (or something equally as daft)
Try grabbing a copy of the bookmarks.adr file before starting Opera, after adding the toolbar bookmarks, and then again after closing Opera. See if you can spot a pattern. That may let you spot a way of forcing Opera to keep your bookmarks in place while the Devs get this bug stomped
From reading around, it is clear that the bookmarks are a "work in progress".

Thanks for what you have posted, I will give that a go. My problem is even though I posted that it is my Laptop in fact it is my Wife's who doesn't like me keep "messing" up her browser and personal bar just to try out new builds.!
I have just tried build 3353 and that is just as problematic. But, as I have noted, build 3333 works perfectly well.
What I did notice is that when using "Sync" the bookmarks which should be on the personal bar (when viewed with "manage bookmarks") are no longer functioning bookmarks - they are empty of any data and no longer work as links - they also "lose" their title given to them. They will not be displayed on the personal bar when rebooted but will when selected to do so with "manage bookmarks" they will but they no longer function.
If "sync" is not enabled they will then continue to show where they are linked to and indeed work but they just keep disappearing at each browser start.
Hope that makes sense.!

Your description of the "missing details" implies to me that the entries being written to the bookmarks.adr file are corrupted in some way. With a bit of digging into those files, I expect you could "correct" the errors by hand.
I would pick one of the disappearing bookmarks as an example, and then compare before, during and after states.

You could well be right. The "missing details" has only just happened since build 3353 was installed. However it was then that I decided to give the "sync" online with Opera and so created an account to store the bookmarks, speed dials etc etc .
When I was first having this issue with the laptop and build 3347 I used my own, working with 3347, bookmarks.adr file. It worked great on the laptop until it was closed down and then they disappeared from the personal bar They can be put back again manually each time the browser is launched). However the actual file then worked fine on my main workstation and indeed worked fine on the laptop - the links just disappear from the personal bar each time the browser is started with anything greater than build 3333.
The same bookmarks.adr file that 3347 (+) has issues with on the laptop works great when build 3333 is then returned back to the machine.

@dude09 - I assumed this had been reported. So it does not harm to do some of our own investigation. It can help speed up the fix.
@Vimes - have you opened any of your bookmarks.adr files in notepad? To look at what is actually written in there?
Sounds to me like 3347 has a mild case of dyslexia.

I have the same problem, and I don't use the sync.
Happens both with folders and simple bookmarks.
It always happens to the first element on the personal bar, and only when the personal has been changed.
I mean, If I close and reopen without changing anything on the personal bar nothing will disappear. But If I move something (don't need to change the first element can be the order of the 2 last ones) and close, when reopening, the first element won't be there.
So is not about duplicates, must be something saving the personal bar settings.

@SafetyCar: Does the same "first item" always disappear? Or are you loosing the icons one by one?
Based on Vimes' comment, have you tried keeping a copy of bookmarks.adr so you can over write this when errors occur?
The more reading around this forum I do, the more it is clear there are Bookmark changes going on. Possibly caused by work on Opera Mini as this thread sounds very related ( http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=324271 )
(Could also be worth your time to check opera:config and search for the SYNC settings in there. Make sure they really are all off and\or set to zero)

Wow, I think I found something interesting
The disappeared element have the attribute "PERSONALBAR_POS=0"
So looks that when loading de position 0 is ignored, and when the orders need to be regenerated again starts from 0 what makes again the next element dissapear (the previous POS=0 is lost and the current POS=1 will when the positions are regenerated get the new POS=0, being later ignored when loading the bar)

That sounds like that could explain the OP's original observation.
Clearly Opera has forgotten how to count.

(Vimes - was this thread included in your bug report?)
