Close Tab while loading
Hi!i have rejoined the opera community after using version 5 a long time ago... ehm... 2001?
anyway my favourite browser IE6 (yes! ...and i have tried'em all) is more and more not longer supported.
so i am currently testing Fx 3.6 and Opera 10.5, google chrome/chromium is already been uninstalled again due to its heavy RAM usage and that point i am talking here about...:
CLOSING TABS WHILE THEY LOAD
Fx is the only one who can do that... and IMHO this is an absolutely must have/killer feature!
i.e. you are opening a site with massive images and youtube videos, or scripts running and so on... you CAN NOT abort the loading by easily closing the page! you HAVE to wait till it is finished, then you can close the tab window.
why?i cannot understand that, that is such a useless time wasting... please change that asap!!!
thank you
I cannot say that I ever found this a problem. AFAIK you can close a page while its loading. Do you have a link to a page that causes problems for you?
If not, just click the stop button, then close the tab.

I've noticed that you can't close a single tab that is "stuck" loading before it starts rendering the page. This happens if you try to access a page that is unavailable before the error page pops up for example. I think it only applies when using keyboard shortcuts/mouse gestures though, but I find it pretty annoying.

yes, that is what i mean. maybe "rendering" describes it more precise than "loading".
but that is not only on sites which give you an error... mainly i have the prob on pages which are dynamically generated. so i have always to wait till it is rendered, then the close X button appears. the stop button also works only if the page is there, not before or while opera generates the output!
IE reacts there faster, and Fx can immediately close the tab without waiting for rendering output!
chrome has also to wait till it the page is rendered before you can close the tab.
---
i am using that currently by opening a bookmarks folder by "open all in new tab", then sending i.e. a web formular, closing one tab to switch to the next tab.
but there are several other situations i encounter that prob. and if the server is busy it takes even longer to wait for the page output while you are waiting for the close X button (or pressing ctrl+w).
example:
online browser game: www.travian.com
sending troops... http://s5.travian.com/a2b.php

clicking OK... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnrESW6Mj1c
and then you HAVE to wait for the normal output till it has finshed rendering.... and it can be a long list showing you all your attack troops! you can't close the tab before the page has 100% loaded/rendered!

no, in most cases it doesn't work this way. i have always to wait the processing/output of the page!
(maybe i am too fast...
)...i want to close the page if it is blank - optimally!

stop button works IF page is finished LOADING! that makes sense...?!?!

It makes no sense at all. The stop button works while the page is loading. Without a link to a problem site, there is nothing much we can do to test this.
