Opera misbehaves with ~100+ tabs
Win7 64, 4Gb ram, Opera 10.51/win32, mixed content, mostly livejournal.com, youtube, etc, quite a lot of images, using Ad-muncher as a filter with his huge html scripts._Very_ much tabs, usually 100+.
List of problems:
1. At some point youtube flash stopping to work. Either shows black window instead of video or "flash not detected, install latest version". Works fine after restart.
2. Middle mouse click-scroll stopping to work completely until restart.
And 3, the most annoying: at some point when trying to save image from web page, file dialog first refuses to save file - it shows up, but nothing happens when im clicking "save" button, shortly after this file dialog refuses to pop at all, and finally, shorty after this Opera simply crashes.
Don't know is it important that im saving files into a directory consists of ~15000 files or not, but this is the most annoying bug atm, it's 100% repeatable.
These bugs persists from at least version 9.0, and i think even was before, just either noone tested opera with really big amount of tabs or
something.
It seems like people who typically run Opera with over 100 tabs open are rare.(Possibly just you and me.) They(Opera support team) may want you to make a more specific subject and/or break this thread up into separate topics, but I'll try to give you a quick answer based on my experience.
I don't run flash or use middle mouse, but I can speak to your "no save" issue, as I've seen this. Also, I've found it to not just be issues with right clicked images on pages. *Everything* stops saving, any type of file download fails.
I go back over my tabs and close a few, then shut down the browser, back up the session and shutdown/restart Windows. This works for a while until my number of tabs reaches that threshold again. It isn't too much of a problem, becuse by then the high number of tabs is setting cumbersome to deal with anyway. For me this happens in Vista, but not XP or Linux, though I typically seem to have more tabs open on my Vista system. I don't have Windows 7.
Is there anyone who has found a better solution or can shed more light on the situation?

I've seen some of the problems mentioned here (though it's been a long time since last time with those). But one new that also happens when super-using Opera: suddenly when lots of tabs/windows are open and Opera starts to slow down, an error message is shown that states that bookmarks file couldn't be saved. It starts to pop-up constantly, obviously because e.g. bookmarks are clicked and Opera wants to update the last visited date. After that you only have to start closing tabs and try to get Opera "load" (=RAM) down and suddenly Opera is able to save it again (not showing errors). The file is never locked by other processes (I've checked), the file system is a-o-k, it's pretty clear that it's something within Opera that fails when "super" using the browser.. like some of us rare ones do frequently. That, and also Opera failing to show images when browser under heavy "stress".
It annoys the cr.. curry out of me when after a "superuse", closing down windows/tabs doesn't lower the mem/VM size enough and Opera keeps acting slowish even if windows/tabs closed to very little. If one instead restarts Opera with the same set of many windows/tabs, Opera works much faster and is using less resources. "Trash collecting"/resource freeing not working perfectly. And this with 10.10.

And then there's the "toggle bookmark panel open/close" super slowness while under heavy load. Actually that operation slows down gradually when Opera uses more and more resources, one just starts to notice it only when it's super slow (if don't know about this "bug").

I usually get the "Could not save file" bookmarks.adr error when leaving Opera opened over night. So after a hard days work with lots of browsing, I might just have one tab open over night. When coming back to work I'm presented with the error. Closing Opera don't work, so I usually kill it from Task Manager right away.

Yep, "could not save" error also pops up after some heavy usage, only restart fixes it.
On topic: after days of restarts i came to conclusion that it looks like opera has some kind of "maximum objects" or "maximum memory", and with so many tabs open it seems we hitting that maximum. Cannot think anything else with that "close few pages and it gonna work again" behaviour.

I've been able to "fix" it every time with closing down tabs (i.e. reducing memory/resources).

Same here. I've had that view for a long time.

Any more recent updates on this? I've stuck with 10.10 for my largest sessions due to strange virtual memory load on restart. Most assuredly there have been GDI and plugin leaks fixed as of 10.53, so I'd like to know how much this affects the matter. Could one of the original reporters of this try again with 10.53 or the latest 10.60?
FWIW, I just answered to an user in the Desktop Team Blog and pointed to this topic when he reported that he saw the "bookmarks file couldn't be saved" error message for the first time. I suppose that he was using the latest 10.6 snapshot when that happened.

I also had those problems with the "Could not save..." message before.
Until now, it has not shown in 10.60.
On the other hand, I keep getting problems with many tabs open, over 150, typically, though usually in 3-4 different windows: pages not loading parts (like pics) not even when reloaded, empty or black menus or boxes, explorer icons not showing when saving files...
Sometimes it blocks me completely as, for instance, a cookie question box comes up with only the title and blank content!
I checked the Windows resources usage for Opera in this situations (GDI/User objects) but it is nowhere near the maximum limit.
So it might be some Opera's own limits as Mudvin pointed above... it is very frustrating, so couldn't anyone from Opera Software gives us a word on this?
Before, I had not found this topic, so I opened a new one:

Welcome to the "wonderful" world of "you browsed too many sites, i.e. used too many resources and Opera leaked over.. you need to restart Opera". Earlier versions did not give you such problems? Is the problem getting worse?
