Review on iphone Opera mini

Hi, guys, first I want to say congratulations, you guys did make it! And opera mini on iphone is hell fast as you guys have shown on youtube, and it's so smooth and nice looking! Congrats!

However, I know you might not like this word, there are still some points need to be improved.

First, opera link appears NOT to sync all my bookmarks but only the first 9 speed dials. That's weired... Would you please sync everything as the desktop version?

Second, opera mini uses your server to re-transfer all the data, down-sampling all the images on the page, doesn't it? I would like to have an option to disable this fuction when I am on hi-speed wifi or when I need original high quality images.

Third, please add a fuction to manually specify user interface language...

Very looking forward to your next update.
Thank opera team to all the effort to bring opera on iphone and thank Jobs to have approved opera mini.

1) Make a bookmark on your iPhone, sync it, an Opera Mini folder should appear in Opera Desktop. Drag bookmarks in to it and then sync again, took me a while to figure that out.

2) Doubt it, will have to wait until we get Opera Mobile 10 probably.

Personally, I don't like the interface of it. It would be a lot better if it was more iPhone native.

So this is an Opera iPhone request thread I guess?

Sure, ok. I dont know what are propper channels to make sugestions anyway so here is a good start.

The only thing that is immediately and glaringly missing for me, and somethind I didnt know was missing till now, is there should be a screen orientation lock.

I'm lying in bed now and have to fight with the screen to make it face the right way relative to my point of view.
With Safari at least, it does not orientate the screen when thw phone ia completely upside down (home button at the top) which means the browser can be used lying down in landscape mode correctly for my view.

It's a little thing, but it makes the browser very hard to use in this situation.

A second thing that I only just noticed writing this post with Opera on thw iPhone, is I'm really missing the iPhone's typing assist. ie correcting simple spelling mistakes and auto capitalising things like 'i'.
Is it possible to have this as an option to be enabled/dissables at will too?

Is it not possible to change the Speed dial preview images? Because on several of my previews, i only see an ad...

Which brings me to urlfilter - it would be so much better if urlfilter.ini was synchronized as well... But i assume that wouldn't matter since it using server side/Turbo?

The biggest problem however, is that about 30% of the sites i visit serves the mobile version of their site. Very annoying. I know it's not Opera's fault, but maybe you should change the user agent to hide that it's a mobile device on iPhone?

Other that that, it's awesome. I'm done with Safari, and i won't miss the frustration and data costs when i hit back, and Safari reloads the entire page!

Congratulations!
Thank you Opera mini Team for your providing us Opera mini for iPhone!

But!It's very heavy traffic and slow now:(

Opera should maintain the server that endures the access from 85 million iPhoneOS devices all over the world.

iPhone,iPod touch,iPad..

I think it's better to change UserAgent for Opera mini for iPhone from the others.

Thanks for creating this cmichael85. I really like the speed Mini brings to the iPhone, but its got some issues.

I cannot get Opera to sync any of my bookmarks. I only get the 9 SpeedDials. I go to Opera on desktop, uncheck and recheck bookmarks, and it never syncs.

+1 Better quality images would be a nice option, along with text that is not invisible when viewing full page (why can I see text in Safari but not Mini).

+1 Most important to allow us not to sleep!

+1 Some SpeedDial images are blocks of color. Sucks.

Maybe this would help with site incompatability.

===============
My Opera Mini for iPhone request list:

1) Id like to request the option to select some notes to be synced and not all. The same with bookmarks (Opera wont sync any, so maybe I dont know it is an option yet) Can I only sync certain folders and not them all from my bookmarks on my desktop?

2) Id also like to request the option to sync the user created search engines from Opera desktop. The ability to create new search in Mini is great, so let me sync it to and from my desktop.

3) Need Better pinch to zoom.

Cheers!

I'm unable to startup Opera mini on the iphone. It just gets stuck with the opera mini title and the spinning wheel forever. Tried reinstalling the app like 3 times and also restarted my iphone twice after installation. Any other suggestions guys? I will try to provide any information if you can guide me!

EDGE on OM is fast, but wifi very slow compare Safari. Inspell not working on OM.
Zoom in/out not good compare Safari because not support multi-touch.
Hope it'll good on OM with new version in future.

According to the report of other 3G users, you are not alone.
Opera mini works fine on 3GS, stuck on 3G.

yep, opera mini really needs a smarter pinch zoom, the zoom ratio is fixed in the current version. I would prefer the way safari did.

Only problem I'm having is that I can't login to sites where I used a complex password containing special characters. There must be something funky with the way the Opera servers are handling my input, at least with non-alphanumeric characters. I can login to sites where I used regular alphanumeric passwords just fine.

Speeddial is only meant to sync 9, that's the whole speeddial idea. that you can have quick access to to nine favorite sites.
A tellefone has also just 9 numbers(0 exluded) for quick access to the speeddials.

I also see people wanting all of there bookmarks, but for al I know only the ones in the folder Opera Mini are synced, probably because you're using a phone

It's possible to synchronize the bookmarks if you c&p all your bookmarks into the Opera-Mini folder on your PC and try again and again, but thats sub-optimal. Opera mini should just use all the normal bookmarks via opera link, imho it's a bug. Having to re-enter all the opera link account over and over again if the function is disabled and enabled again is also annoying.

I have to say, it's really really fast, but there seem to be some major rendering issues – even with opera.com – you would assume a Page that got pre-rendered by a proper PC could at least get desktop Opera quality.

I hope the next update will fix these issues, this thing has potential

well, that's nice, but unless they call every webdesigner ever and tell them how to make their site appear correct on opera mini, they should address some of the issues in the software. For instance the "feature" were they automatically narrow the content rows. Overall the website should be rendered like a proper desktop site and then that's were good zooming comes in.

@image quality: the image size gets scaled to fit the device screen by default, but for people who prefer the full size there is already a setting to achieve this:
click on the "screw wrench" symbol in the toolbar, then on settings=>image quality and set it to "Large"

just my own little mini review. it is insanely fast, but one thing that is bugging me and MANY others(opera mini has been trending on twitter for HOURS now and i've been reading peoples reviews of it)is the zoom feature...it should be the top priority fix, if it were more like safari's zoom feature then this browser will be simply amazing.
