Can I install Opera 10.51 on top of previous version 9.64

I would like to keep all my e-mail etc integrated into the new version without to much hassle.
It's been a while since I updated so I would like to try the new version provided it is as good if not better than what I've got.
Sorta lost touch with everything for various reasons, but would love to find out about the new offerings!
I've been using Opera since 3.62, about 15 or so years ago!
TIA

Backup 1st

read: http://help.opera.com/Windows/10.52/en/backup.html

Then uninstall your previous version..install 10.51(stable)

i would suggest to wait for more weeks for 10.52

Windows 7 Professional SP1 x86
AMD Atlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
2.0 GB RAM
GeForce 9400 GT(301.42 Stable Driver)
All Latest Drivers and Latest Windows Updates.
Using 11.64(Stable) and Soon 12 Final when it release.

That doesn't answer my basic question.
I always backup my files/folders but i just want to know if I can safely do a simple over the top copy so that my e-mails will stay in the Received folder and not be put in an separate folder saying something like (previous e-mails) or whatever?
TIA

It depends.

There was a major change in locations of principle folders and settings files between 9.64 and 10.00, including the Mail folder. Upgrade of 10.00 was supposed to copy the mail files from the old location to the new one (and probably reindex), and this seemed to work for those with standard multi-user installation in Windows. But, if I recall correctly, some users with single user installation with profile folders within the Opera program directory reported of loss of personal data including old mails. In my case (multiuser installation using Opera Mail client for Gmail IMAP accounts only) I had little issue with upgrading. But I can offer you no guarantee if that'll be the case for you.

Does that answer your question?
