Opera stops showing very high resolution images.

After viewing many high-resolution images, Opera eventually gets to a point where it stops displaying high-resolution images. Currently, it is using ~640MB of ram on a system that has 6GB of ram (high usage, but not unruly considering I still have over 3GB free). In short, at this moment, high-resolution images are downloaded but NOT displayed...

If I go to this google search: http://images.google.com/images?client=opera&rls=en&q=high%20resolution&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi#start=0&imgsz=4mp&tbo=1

The thumbnails show fine, but if I try to view the full image, Opera downloads them (progress bar shows download progress all the way up until it finishes), but it does not display the image.....all I get is something like this:opera issue.jpg

I have been having this issue with Opera since way back in 9.5, any idea what causes this or how to fix it? It displays practically any amount of normal-sized pictures, but if I view just a few high-res pictures it tends to stop displaying them.

I find I get that error with only one image of 16,000 x 16,000 pixels = 732.42 MB (768,000,040 Bytes) in RAM. Even IrfanView struggles to display that one. All other images load and display OK, but I haven't tested with a whole load of images.

My PC only has 1 Gbyte of RAM.

Just how many images are you loading at once? Does this happen only with very large images, or with a large number of 1 Megapixel + images?

At the time it happened, I had maybe 4-5 2000x1500+ images (4-5 3+ MP images). I have seen it happen in the past with very large number of smaller images, but a refresh typically causes them to all load properly. A refresh on the large images however, does not make them load like it did with the smaller images.

It only happens once you load a couple large images (like 4+), for me at least.....but I also have around 20 tabs open, so that may contribute to the cause.

It has been happening since 9.5, and I have reset my profile multiple times since then (typically after a large update) and it still happens.

How's this one?

(from Ratatouille - a bit over 5000 pixels each way). This machine has less than 1 GB of RAM available (it has 1 GB total but loses some to the onboard video) and handled that okay.

But on the other hand ... I recall a friend trying to look at a high-res image in IE back in the Windows 9x days. Emphasis on "trying" - it didn't work. I had somewhat more RAM and was able to view it in Irfanview, but even on my system IE choked on that one.

I can view these high-res images just fine (except that they visually stop loading after ~12%, and then show up completely when fully loaded).

Worked fine right now, but I just woke up and Opera is only using 267MB of ram at the moment. I think the issue is when Opera is close to the limit it should use. With Automatic Ram Cache, it allows up to 10% to be used for the cache, at 10% of 6GB, thats ~614MB for the ram cache. Every time I have issues with high-resolution images, I am using 600MB or more of ram.....if I can get Opera to drop down to 500MB or so, I can reload the image and it will appear fine without an issue until I go over 600MB again.

Another thing, when it does happen, if I right-click the image and get its properties, the Depth field reads 0 bits per pixel.....so it is essentially loading the size of the image, but it is not loading (or not displaying) the color of the image.

Has this bug been resolved yet? I'm having the same problem with my opera, with exception that even smaller around 1mpix size images stop showing after awhile. I'm pretty sure that this has some thing to do with opera not unloading images properly from the cache. I wonder if there's a way to flush opera's cache manually somehow without closing the browser since it get's annoying to close it constantly. I haven't paid attention on how much memory is opera using when this bug starts to occur, but I'm pretty heavy internet user and usually have 50+ tabs open, so my memory usage is around 1gb or so usually.

I have this problem as well. I had it back with Opera 10 on Win XP and I still have it after I went to Windows 7 with Opera 10.52. When I first load up Opera it doesn't seem to have any problem with images, but after using it for a while, especially if it's opening a lot of medium to large images, it then has trouble loading images. My Opera does seem to use a lot of RAM, even more than most people seem to claim because I have so many tabs open, but I'm running with 8gb of RAM, so I'm not sure if that's a factor.

I couldn't see that image when I first tried it, but after closing and restarting Opera I was able to load it without issue.

I could reproduce this here, when opening a lot of really big images and arrange them next to each other.
