guardian.co.uk site incredibly slow and using lots of ram
Unsure if this is part of a larger problem, but the http://www.guardian.co.uk site uses tons of RAM, over the last couple of snapshots, and is painfully slow and seemingly unresponsive. It's working OK in other browsers. Especially bad are the comment forums, based on javascript.Any thoughts - thanks very much

Absolutely no problem here: it loaded almost instantly , everything works as it should - actually the memory usage has dropped to normal values with this build.

Thanks Azrael1 - it's not the site generally that's a problem, just those sections that have a comments facility, such as this one -

Thank you for trying that out, lambton28, I don't think their javascript is well written - I have nil expertise in this subject - but occasional Opera issues have arisen in past years.
I have contacted them at various points, but they appear to have no interest, and especially when we're using beta builds etc. I also get the pages taking ages to load, and if you click to provide positive feedback on a comment it really eats processor up - I don't have tons of RAM etc, but this is noticeably so much worse than in other builds and browsers that it's off-putting, especially if one is a regular user of that site.
The problem is not specific to that comment page, all seem similarly afflicted, and I tested in the middle of the night, 3am, UK time, to check that they weren't over-loaded etc.
Haven't reported this as a bug at this point, but would if this is appropriate.

The linked page loaded extremely slow and the processor constantly stayed at 99%. Same page loaded like a breeze if i didn't used the all comments option so , yea, it's a bug.

Bug report filed DSK-294516 Also had crash log submissions after trying to log-in to the comments section, due to Opera crashes on this site.
Thanks again Azrael1 and lambton28, I've focused mainly on memory useage, which I'm guessing is the appropriate problem?

The loading problem may be due to the many html 5 errors on the page. Many of which are related to page viewing the Page. I Also noticed that Opera hangs on the last element of the Page. It may not all be Opera's fault. One of the reasons that IE 8 is so slow ,is because they have a auto page correction sub routine hidden that works much like gooogle you "meant to say" for bad coding thing .

Thank you RomDos - it's a pity that I guess many web managers got lazy, with Ie fixing poor pages. I've left a message at the Guardian, though I'm not expecting much - when I've reported similar problems on pre-release Opera in the past site's didn't want to know. I believe it's worth the current builds than it ever was before, so they may just be accurately highlighting the mess of a web site now.
I did report a bug to Opera a few days back - it obviously shouldn't be their priority, unless it flags up a wider serious issue with Opera, so it will be great to see if there are improvements. I'm also guessing the last element hanging will diminish clear overall.
I just hate using any other browser than Opera, and spend a lot of my time on that site, so it's a major hassle for me - it's a very popular UK site, so Opera users in - mostly Europe - would find similar problems, so hope this helps others too.
Thanks again, Rob

No problem now in build 3381 - fully loaded in less than 4 seconds, 0% CPU and a relatively normal level of memory usage.
Since the last test all builds have been upgrades.

Don't know if you got problems with previous builds, but I'm running 3381 and still having major issues. The site is apparently poorly build, but it seems a major regression from earlier stable builds. I don't have particularly fast pcs, with tons of memory, but this is much worse than previously in Opera and runs ok in other browsers, and I hate to use them.
Thanks for checking that out.

Thanks I've added some links in that listing, relating to this, the Opera bug report I filed and some test results that I did yesterday comparing Opera 10 with the current Version 10.53 3381 The difference between your post and mine is that yours relates to page not loading, whlst this relates to memory useage.
