Opera Widgets vs Firefox Plugins

I'm an Opera fanboy for some time now, but before I was using Firefox and in my opinion the only one thing that Opera is worse than firefox are the widgets/plugins. I feel that opera's widgets are kinda like toys for 5-year olds and firefoxs' plugins are high-tech machines for engineers. There are many interesting and very powerfull plugins from firefox that aren't either in opera or in widgets. I know that firefox has a much bigger user community (46% firefox; 2% opera - 23 times bigger) but could this be the only reason? Is the widgets API a good competitor for opera plugins? maybe it's time to improve the widgets and rebuild them to sth like plugins.
What do You think???

If you're an Opera fanboy, then you should know that Opera widgets are not the equivalent feature to Firefox extensions.
In other words, widget are not meant to be like Firefox extensions, add-ons that enhancing a featureless browser.
Opera Widgets are web-apps, they are not plug-ins to the browser, please read these links to learn more:

I'm well aware that widgets are of different destination than plugins in FX, but I want to start a discussion about the "need" of plugin-like SDK in Opera. Image a situation when we have 2 SDK-s or the SDK of widgets makes it possible to improve/differ Opera itself. Widgets basically aren't useful in desktop Opera. I presume that mobile user use them a lot.

I did make a search, but I haven't found any decent result (but I only searched in widget subforum). I found one know in a wider search, so I'll continue the disc. there. Cheers bigsmile

one of the reasons Opera is so much better thn furrfox, is the pluginlesness - and we shoudl appreciate it - they are making more, not letting us work for ourselfes^^
its HUGE security flaw - let anyone put their fingers in the browser - you know how it is "pls update/dnt use fckfox plugin xyz bacause of known security problems" - i am happy we dont have this here.

opera itself can do MORE thn ff with 10 plugins. and i really like this "out of the box" functionality.
