Access to mobile.nytimes.com on OM5
On OM 4.2 I used a speed dial to access the mobile NY Times site and found this site to be an ideal way of scanning the headlines and reading articles of interest, as well as using some of NYT's excellent mobile services. On OM 5 this speed dial redirects to the main NYT site, which I find much less optimal. (Desktop browsers also do this automatic redirection).
Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

As I've posted elsewhere, I've been having the same issue. No, using the mobile.nytimes.com URL does not work. The mobile website does a forced redirect to the full website when it thinks you are not using a phone browser. It even changes your speed dial or bookmarks to the www URL. If you try to access articles in the full website using Opera 5 Mini you may get an error message telling you are using an old browser that won't display the page properly and that you should get Firefox. I contacted the Times.com support people. They said this forced redirect is built into their mobile website and they are not going to change it.
I have gone back and reinstalled 4.2 and now I have access to mobile.nytimes.com (and mobile everything else) again. The cosmetic improvements in version 5 don't matter to me as much as being able to view the uncluttered mobile site on my phone screen. Apparently in Opera's desire to improve access to full websites for those who want that, Opera 5 Mini appears to websites to be a PC browser - not a phone browser. The same problem occurs with Opera Mobile (which is why I promptly uninstalled it and asked for - and got - a refund).
Opera: Please, please, PLEASE make Opera 5.1 Mini appear to websites as a phone browser. When I want the full website display I can use Opera Mobile or Skyfire (or Safari for iPhone users). But Mini was THE BEST for quick and uncomplicated access to mobile sites on a small phone screen. Put it back the way it was.

The mobile NYT site works fine here in Mini 5, and doesn't redirect me. I prefer Reuters, however.
http://mobile.reuters.com/mobile/rdt/
I'm in Canada, so I append "ca." to the beginning of that URL.

To the original poster: You might want to try clearing the contents of your address bar and typing in debug: . On the page that comes up, look at your phone's user agent ID under the Client Info and Request Headers categories. Here's what I'm seeing in both cases:
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320)
This exactly matches the user agent ID of my built-in browser, IE Mobile, so maybe the redirect is caused by what Opera is getting from your phone.

http://www.nytimes.com/services/mobile/ perhaps the app store could be the reason, also http://www.nytimes.com/?referrer=operamini must be tried.

Actually, I wrote "opera mini" when I meant "opera mobile". Sorry for the confusion.
In opera mobile, nytimes redirects me to the full site.
In opera mini, the mobile version displays fine.
Now I have both installed on my android device and I'll use opera mini for most of my browsing. Thanks for help.

Change the user agent to mobile in Opera Mobile advanced settings.
