Cannot access Yahoo Mail! Error: "Connection closed by remote server"

Hi

for the last 2 days I cannot access my yahoo mail through opera (on a motorola V8 phone). before this everything was FINE. I've NOT done any chages to the phone, NOR to my email. I used opera mini 4.2 but today I upgraded to the latest mini 5 and the problem still persists.

The error message is:
"Connection closed by remote server. Please see if you have internet conenction or if the typed URL is correct ..."

This happens when I try to log in. viewing yahoo pages WORKS but i CANNOT login into my mailbox. And this happens when trying to login into different yahoo-mail accounts.

Please resolve it!!!

PS: 1 of every 10 attempts do works and I can login but this is pure chance. in 99% of the cases it does NOT work.

Tested and retested, install Opera Mini using phone build-in browser via direct link m.opera.com without changing anything in dl link. Or even better, clean install is preferable. This problem can be affected by httphost and app identification.

Come on, I know how to install an app on my phone. As I stated above the problem started 2 days ago with version 4.2. And it persists after the upgrade to version 5. I HAVEN'TT DONE ANY CHANGES TO MY PHONE, NOR TO MY EMAIL.

Yes, this can be the culprit, but I CANNOT do anything about it. Everything goes through the opera servers. They need to fix this up.
I can only assist with testing.

maybe the problem has something to do with the id of the opera browser. when I type in the yahoo address I'm automatically redirected to their mobile site (which is awful by the way). I can view the site normally but get the error when clicking on the e-mail link.

Maybe the yahoo server sees the mobile browser but opera request the standard login-page which is "unavailable", hence the "closed connection by the remote server".

I hope a solution is found asap.

PS: maybe a similar problem here (browser-id problem): http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=525181

I can't reproduce that with t servers. Set timeout to 20 in 'config:' and perhaps its better to disable site patches, restart the app again... try 'server:test' and after that the setup link.
Edit:
Maybe it's better to make a bug report, if we move in circles that would be a waste of time.

This is the best solution.
I tried your suggestions but they didn't help. I still cannot login into my yahoo email-account. everything else _seems_ to be ok.

Where should I file the bug report?

I thought they have some kind of open bug tracker like the usual linux bug-trackers. Anyway I hope they fix it asap.

Thanx for the help SAGRID.

Or more exactly I can reproduce this behavior at times but in the end is fixed for me. 2 posible causes: issues with dl link regarding phone ua detection; issues with 't' servers (double redirection).

It looks like a server issue to me. When I look into the server:version page, I see my phone is correctly recognized (right screen resolution, right java version, right phone model and version).

And you say that you can reproduce it in some cases. We have different phones and since the problem occurrs also at your side, it points to a general opera (server) problem.

Noooo,

I've been trying this since the problem started to happen. All the time I'm being redirected to the mobile page. The url is:
http://m.yahoo.com/w/login/user?_done=widget%3Aygo-mail%2Fhome.bp&.intl=DE&.lang=de&_httpHost=m.yahoo.com
and it's perfectly accessible from my pc. The page also looks exactly like the mobile version. Go through m.yahoo.com and then click mail in the upper right corner. This is when the error occurrs.

I even tried the user-agent-string from the mini-browser but it works from the PC.

The problem is with the phone.

SAGRID, I REALLY tried EVERYTHING and it still doesn't work. Today, for instance, I got this error in ALL my tries. There is NO link where I can access my email.

The only option is to use a double proxy e.g. phone -> opera-server -> 2nd internet-proxy -> yahoo-mail. This is more than frustrating.

I also tried server:reset and now have t02-03. This couldn't help me either.

The problem is definitely somewhere with the opera servers.

i might be wrong, but didn't they upgrade the servers? It was 4.16.something before, but it changed to 4.17 a few days ago. Since then i also had a few problems while submitting forms, i.e. on FB, and the debug: page doesn't fit my screen anymore

I have tried all browsers on my n95 and only one browser has been able to give me yahoo mail and this is boltbrowser 2.02 beta. The others will either crush or will not go beyond login. Bolt can give both new mobile and new desktop views. Am sure opera will manage soon. I tried to access yahoo mail using wap browser http://www.baresite.com, but my opera mobile could not go beyond 350kB of downloading due to limited ram. Maybe a phone with larger RAM can. Also it depends on how much you trust such wapsites or what you use your email address for or both.

So many words!!! Solving the problem is very simple for me. I am using the BOLT-browser. (m.yahoocom or new.m.yahoo.com) It works very well.

I'm quite frastrated as it's more than a week since this problem appeared and there's still no fix for this. I tried my build-in phone browser which works perfectly with the yahoo-mail.

This is my final proof that it's an internal opera problem. I'll be glad if the developers of the highly-prized mobile browser finally sit on their a**** and do something (a bug was also filed!!!).

Try this. It's Yahoo! Mobile's original layout made for Mini 4.2 before they updated to the current "design". I've had no problems signing into Yahoo! Mobile on that link using Mini 5 final.

Thank you guys, but this is exact the same URL that triggers the error in my case. the only differences are the values for .intl and .lang as well as the .ysid. The first two are adjuested for my country and the third one is missing (session id).

as I said this same URL isn't accessable from my phone. I tried downgrading to om4.2, deleting everything and reinstalling whithout luck. at the same time this URL works perfectly from the build in phone browser (which is opera 8.50 by the way). And all this happened without doing ANYTHING on my phone.

I tried to contact yahoo but still haben't gotten any responce from them. A bug is also filed and this stills happens.

I'm really puzzeled.

Sign in on http://login.yahoo.com page and if you're redirected to Yahoo mobile revert y mail to classic version using Bolt and login again after that. It's just so easy.

Let's clarify something:

1. As stated more than 10000000000 times: I have NOT done ANY changes to my phone or email.
2. Going through THOUSANDS of proxies just to read my email is NOT an option (through bolt then back, or permanetly switching to the classic version !!!!!!! :-( ). That's stup**!
3. After getting this error message I switch IMMEDIATELY to the default phone browser and EXACTLY THE SAME URL works PERFECTLY. So NO yahoo guilt, provider blocking or other problems in between.
4. How many times should I prove that this is a OPERA MINI PROBLEM???

I cannot say it more clearly than this. I'm really frustrated with this opera mini bul**** browser. Sorry but my phone still has a buttons and no touch screen so the 4.2 is AWAY better than 5.0 for the typical PHONE.

And this can explain why I don't use the opera browser on my pc.

First of all, let's keep the discussion on an appropriate level. I know this is frustrating to those of you who are affected, but this is no excuse to use foul language.

Secondly, yes there has been several recorded incidents recently where requests from Opera Mini transcoders were refused by Yahoo's webservers. We at Opera Software have worked closely with Yahoo! Inc. to investigate these problems, and several underlying issues have already been resolved on both sides. At this stage, any remaining issues are beyond the scope of Opera Software's control.

However, if you are still experiencing these refused requests, you can help us by providing two pieces of information that we will pass on to Yahoo:

Load URL 'debug:' and note the value of Server status, Host

Load URL 'http://echo.opera.com' and note the value of X-forwarded-for

Thank you in advance.

Well. Thanks now we have a reply from opera. We almo started fighting amongst ourselves. I will contribute to the change. What I have noted lately is that there is a lot of delay from opera to respond to issues. For instance I don't think any one from opera ever explained the reason why we are having memory problems with such phones as nokia n95 while using opera mobile 10. I only got an explanation from fellow users. There used to be Mannes here, but ........

So they would be dropping requests that originate from Opera Mini ? There are just some decisions in the software cosmos that I don't understand.

I can not access the Yahoo mobile mail (m.yahoo.com) from my Samsung phone (SGH-D880), while the older SonyEricsson (k-510i) phone works great on same website. Error: Does not supported device!
At the same time Yahoo mail classic works. I tried reinstalling Opera mini 4.2, 3 and 5 and changing the servers but nothing is helping. The built-in browsers on Yahoo mobile work normally on same phone...
Any suggestion?

I can't reproduce now especially when language tag is from the header instead of phone menu (microedition locale) so both 'mobile' links works. Occasionally 'yahoo' in address bar is resolved as http://yahoo/ and the same issue happens with other sites which dont have mobile view, incidence being higher on first sessions.

This sounds like a different issue from the one 123peter originally reported. Please start a new thread. smile
