My set of opera feature requests

Hi

I just gathered up a set of wishes and features I'd like to see in Opera, read and share you thoughts smile

1. Drag and drop in personal bar + right click menus. Need of visiting "manage bookmarks" tool every time I need to update url is pain in the neck.

2. History search that actually works. The one we have now will always bring many results but not those that you actually want to see.

3. If I have opera minimized and click on a link in lets say IM opera opens a link but remains minimized. This sure is an awkward behavior

4. Executing opera shortcut again should rather open new window than new tab.

5. When I have bookmarks folder containing lets say 5 bookmarks and open all of them Opera should focus on first one in the folder rather then on the last one. Just to follow the laws of logic.

6. Is there a way of importing your gmail contacts to Opera? If not then we should have one.

7. Try to drag more people into writing worthwhile widgets that are actually useful. Some contests maybe? I'd like to see widgets as interesting as Unite apps and not a set of different clocks wink

8. Maybe let windows7 users disable title bar? I only use Opera in maximized mode so I don't really need it and I'm not the only who does that wink

9. Spell check should be more intelligent I think. Now it shows way to many words. Try to write inteligent and see what happens. Why the hell is "interleukin" there? Am I missing something? Besides why those words are on the top of the context menu? That makes me travel all the way up with my cursor just to select one, and those menus take sometimes 50% of my 24" screen height.

10. Can I please have a way to sync Opera with other browsers? Just bookmarks for the start. Maybe you can try to work with Xmarks guys?

this is it for the moment. Waiting for your opinions guys and girls (even though there are none of them on the Internet).

#1. Opera does both already (in Windows anyways, too lazy to double-check in other OS's), drag&drop to re-order, or drag tabs to it... right-click - Properties...

#2. Try searching more specifically, it's not Google, it doesn't rank the results by "hits".

#6. You should be able to export your contacts in GMail (as CSV I think) then import the file in Opera.

#7. There have been a few contests.

#8. It can be "minimized" in a way, but only when you have your toolbars in a specific layout, check this thread for examples (start with about page 30)

#9. "Interleukin" is about 30% the same... as for position, if they were on the bottom, people would complain they are at the bottom... if you are spell checking something near the top of the screen, then the menu drops "down"... if it's near the bottom then it pops "up"...

#10. File - Import & Export - Import ________ bookmarks.

#1. Inside the folders? I don't think so
#2. If I visited
http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/
today and after writing "opera desktop team" into bar I have some kind of strange mishmash then something is not right. Actual page shows there only if was visited few minutes ago. After few hours there is not even a glimpse of a chance. And why it actually do not rank results by hits? Any real explanation why it is just a plain text search? Probably not. When all other browsers can search properly then "flaw" is the only word that fits
#6. Will try that later, thanks.
#8. Will do, thanks
#9. But such a modern technology as word 2003 suggest only "intelligence". It can be done really. Some people just need to write a decent algorithm. And 30% cover is to much I'd say. It's like a difference between booze and boobs. Oh and btw if you misspell between you sometimes get "batwings" as a suggestion. Funny stuff smile

You didn't mention folders p

#2... works for me... first result is this page since you have "opera desktop team"... second result is the actual Desktop Team Blog... third result is "KDE and PowerPC fans rejoice"...

#9. I agree it needs help... but most of the time it's not too long of a list, usually 5 to 8... the problem with adding something like Offices spell check... is that it's huge... it's probably larger than Opera itself.

Most of the time, it gets the right one in the first 3 results... so maybe there should just be a limiter, like MaxResults = # or something.

There's a difference between syncing and importing/exporting. There's a desire for autonomous action so I don't have to export my bookmarks every time I want to go over to Firefox for a few minutes.

5. +1 Yes Opera does it the macro-centric way and not the user-centric way.
