[SOLVED] Opera opens stuck in full screen mode, can't reduce its size

I'm running Antix 8.5 Linux in Virtualbox 3.0.12, and have just installed Opera 10.10 from the Lenny repo. When I run Opera, it opens in full screen size and I'm unable to reduce the screen size; the square button (top right between _ and X) is inoperative. I need Opera to share the screen with other apps, but I can't find any way in the menus to open Opera in a normal size for browsing, or reduce its size after opening. The fullscreen on/off menu entry under 'View' doesn't make it reduce size.

F11 makes it go into full screen mode OK, but doesn't affect my problem. I looked in ~/.opera/operaprefs.ini and found an entry relating to screen size; I commented it out with # but that made no difference.

What do I try next?

More: Antix' default desktop is Fluxbox. I installed KDE4. Initially it opened full size in KDE, and wouldn't reduce in size. But I reduced its size with the Advanced > Special Window Settings feature. Then I logged out and back in to a Fluxbox DT, and Opera opened the same size I had set in KDE. Then I logged back in to KDE and Opera again opened in the correct size.

Maybe this really ISN'T a problem, but it's a heckuva work-around (installing KDE). smile

Still more:

Now I've installed Antix 8.5 in Virtualbox 3.1.6 on my laptop, and then installed Opera 10.10, with the same result as on the other machine. Some additional observations: 1) Neither the sides nor the corners can be grabbed by the cursor, and 2) The Opera screen extends a little past the window edge on the left so that 'File' is half obscured.

Possibly it's some weird interaction between Opera and Antix 8.5 (I'm discounting hardware and VB: same problem on different machines and different versions of Virtualbox). I've googled extensively with many different keywords and can't turn up any other instance of this problem.
