Can I make a Java on/off button for v8.54?

I'm adding buttons from this page:
http://operawiki.info/CustomButtons
to my Opera v8.54.

The Javascript buttons work OK, but the Java buttons don't. They display the state of the Java properly (on/off as set in Preferences), but the buttons won't toggle the Java on or off.

Any ideas how to make a Java on/off button for v8.54?

Thanks.

Jerry

Could be a limitation of 8.x (has to restart to take effect?)... is there an "Enable" in opera:config for Java? (been way too long) If so you could try a button like <a href="opera:/button/Set%20preference,%22Java|Enable=1%22,,%22Java%22,%22Checkbox%20skin%22%20%3E%20Set%20preference,%22Java|Enable=0%22,,%22Checkbox%20skin.selected%22">this</a> (May have to edit accordingly) Although it should do the same thing as the Enable/Disable Java commands directly, but maybe not.

Thanks for posting, Vectronic.

1) Restart doesn't help.
2) There is no "opera:config" in v8.x
3) Your "External Action" button doesn't work either.

I suspect this is going to turn out to be a limitation of v8.x, and there IS no way to make it work. However, I'm leaving the "check-box" version on my toolbar anyway because it visually reminds me whether I've set Java on or off in the Preferences - and it IS accurately following the status of the Preferences toggle.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Well, I guess that leaves an obvious question... why stay with 8.x? If it's because you have an older PC, then I wouldn't suggest 10.5... but, 9.64 should be close to the same resource-wise, and 10.0/10.1 might even be quicker on a lower-spec PC than 9.64.

I keep testing all the new versions as they come out, and I keep dropping back to 8.54 -- which seems to run the best on my old laptop. I do keep a copy of v10.00 around for those (few) sites that won't work with an "unsupported browser," but it runs like a slug. I'm not abandoning 8.54 just because I can't get this Java button to work. Thanks, anyway.
