Warning: do not install Avanquest System Suite 10 on computer with Opera

I've been using the Avanquest System Suite Utility for a number of years, but haven't updated in some time. This past weekend I updated from version 7 to version 10, and the results were disastrous. It nearly ruined my system; even after I restored to the previous state I had to fix two programs that were broken. The suite contains utilities like registry cleaner, firewall, antivirus, and so on. Normally I only use the anitvirus and occasionally do some registry fixing (not editing; it finds broken links). I've been using the Zone Alarm firewall for years, and intended to keep using that.

Basically the problem is that the new System Suite is what they call "optimized" for Firefox and Internet Explorer. I thought at worst it would just bypass or ignore Opera, but I was completely mistaken. The system slowed to an absolute crawl. Deleting temporary internet files took 40 minutes. Every browser, not just Opera, functioned at crawl speed. When i closed Opera, the firewall threw up a message that there had been a major attack on my system, when it was just the Opera shutdown process. The firewall takes forever to load, and there's no option to prevent it from loading at bootup, so you have no choice but to sit there and watch the status bar crawl along. The only way to get rid of the firewall is uninstall, and reinstall the suite without the firewall, but I was so put off by the whole thing that I didn't feel like wasting more time with that approach. I don't know if these problems would go away with no SS firewall installed or not. Also, in "optimizing" Firefox, it added extensions which apparently were not deleted in the uninstallation, so Firefox wouldn't run after I went back to previous state. It crashed and sent int error reports. I was about to have to reinstall Firefox when it mysteriously started running again.

Nuff said. If you want to keep using Opera (which I do), do not even install this utility for testing. Guess they haven't got the word that the world has more browser options nowadays.down

I hope this will save someone some grief. And if someone has had a different experience with this product, I'd like to hear about it. If the problem is something else in my system I'd like to know what it is.
