Comment on not having more fine-grained and immediate control (enable/disable) of plugins
What follows is my 10c worth on Opera 10.50 plugin design...Let's start with: http://news.cnet.com/8301-27080_3-20002530-245.html?tag=nl.e703
"It's just a gaping hole for anyone who has Java," Maiffret said. "Waiting three months is ridiculous. This is such a critical bug you have to go out of cycle." Representatives at Oracle did not respond to a phone call and e-mail seeking comment on Wednesday.
Scary, especially as I tend to use lyric sites to identify songs I hear... I hope Opera is good against these things.
BTW I always disable the Acrobat plugin, so I have to explicitly open any acrobat files in an external reader and can't suffer from drive-bys. I think this should be an easy-to-select option.
Here is an Interview with a security guy which includes many comments on why letting Adobe stuff loose on the web is a bad idea: http://news.cnet.com/8301-27080_3-20002317-245.html?tag=nl.e703
Although I do allow flash, a preference button just to enable/disable that would be handy too - but not the nuclear weapon of disabling all plugins. I have no interest in config options to fully disable stuff, as I want all these things enabled 95% of the time, when visiting sites I trust. (I do use the "Enable plug-ins" and "Enable JavaScript" tick buttons.)
