From what i've heard. Yes 'heard' about South Africa theres no way i would go out there for the world cup. Once again I would remind that the children are - children and very under age. Vast numbers being being of primary school age. The programme also highlighted the families of the men doing this and they defending their menfolk!Time and again the victim families are threatened physically or even with death. Even the police in the programme sighed in a sense that everything seemed so weighted against the child. The police officer interviewed couldn't understand that or find it defensible. But the problem is deep rooted and treated as some harmless form of social disorder when it is wholesale sexual licence and widespread depravity of the most sickening kind. It will be hard to find a country in such similar depths. Even case that do get to the judicial process can take many, many months. Lots of these kids have been threatened with repeated sex for daring to complain.

There is plenty of excuse going on here because some don't want to face up to the terrible and massive rot that is part of the fabric over there. So we now see the usual swerve onto something else. You really have reached the unreal situation. If you had cared to take note of the reaction from SA here you would see that they are incapable of saying anything on the issue. When something does come out it is from one of them in quoting a case in England that is so infinitesimally ridiculous compared to what is going on in SA. Simple math shows that based on a figure of 200,000 per year it's true, at any rate. 1/(200000/365/24/60) = 2.6. One child is raped every 2.6 minutes.

If I go by my own anecdotal evidence then no crime exist in Belgium and the Netherlands except perhaps some petty theft. Oh wait, and smoking pot isn't legal here, so I've smelled evidence of a crime that isn't really punishable. If I go by my own neighborhood (far more than 200 houses) then all that exists is some petty crime like theft from cars. I wish all of Belgium were like this, but it isn't. That doesn't mean that Belgium outside of my neighborhood is some hellhole - far from it, but it's not all some crime-free paradise.

It was good of Dambor97 to repeat the post three times but I am sorry I still find it gibberish and haven't a clue what all that gobblygook is about. As if things weren't bad enough for SA tonight Channel 4 News did a report towards the end on the effect of the World Cup in the country. They highlighted the Cape as that is the city the Cup is centred on but it was a dismal picture of massive drug abuse from young to very old, crime and social breakdown. And 25% of adults are HIV? Many of those interviewed took no interest in the Cup and said it wouldn't make any difference. The scenes were horrifying.

Here's something I don't think of when I hear South Africa. Perhaps not exactly on topic... but you could say I just saw this, hence it'd be the first thing to pop into my mind if you asked me this question right now.
