What's the "vps" folder?

Heya,

I'm using Opera@USB 10.51 stable version and I noticed a folder called VPS (under profile folder) keeps growing and growing in size with time. What is stored in that folder?

Right now I have 6 folders there which are 24-25MB each. Can I delete them? What will I lose? I don't like it growing too big.

Thanks!

One of Opera's features is to store the content of visited pages so that if you can't remember the page were you saw something, but can remember words of phrases used on that page, you can search for those rather than just searching URLs and page titles. Naturally this cache can get big.

I believe UserPrefs|VisitedPages is the setting to disable it. I'm slightly surprised those making the portable versions don't make this setting a default.

And yes, you should be fine to delete it. But just in case, it's better to move it somewhere else first; until you're sure that Opera doesn't need it.

Obviously disable it in Opera before deleting it. There is a checkbox for this in Preferences > Advanced > History.

Oh you're right, these are my settings in History:

You were right guys, once I clicked the Clear button the folder size went down to mere 25kb. Although, I'm not sure what's the difference between normal cache and "Remember content on visited pages", what exactly does the latter remember?

It remembers the text on the pages you visit. Try opening opera:historysearch and enter some search word.

Thank you nafmo!

I decided I don't need that History Search feature so I disabled it which resulted in the disappearance of the vps folder smile
