Opera on windows me

I still have my 2nd ibm like system, etower 633id, that has hardware upgrades as far as they can go.
512MB ram
1.4gig micro
software mods or changes thru years?????

Opera 9.64 super, but when it asks to upgrade the 10s load, install, but dont start.
Some message about needing something not present? A .dll? Maybe advapi32.dll?
In past 98lite in system?
Only fire up once in a while to make sure its alive.
Have had it since WINDOWS ME was just out and was a upgrade to system.

Advantage of 10 series over 9?
On another system some things harder to find on 10, bookmarks ect, where on 9 they are on a bar at the top.

Older systems running 98, 98se, Me can be faster then some newer systems running 2K, XP?
I guess 98 series was smaller and faster?
This started with only 64MB ram and a 633meg micro, but now with 1.4gig micro and 512MB ram it flies with Win ME?
Slowest part is front side bus at only 100meg and the cable card for ROAD RUNNER high speed internet only does 5megbits per sec.
where newer motherboards and windows can do 23megbits per sec.

Avast for virus, tiny persenal firewall, opera 9.64, win media player 9.

Having this problem too on my Windows ME OS...there is no flashing/blinking cursor throughout the browser in Opera 10.52 build 3363. Using this build as with previous 10.5x builds make it harder to navigate/position your mouse and type without the cursor.

I also, observed that with this build Opera Team FINALLY fixed the Bug #DSK-290399 (Freeze when importing a large bookmark file)...I have had bookmark files crash under previous builds with file sizes in the 2.90-3.02 MB range crash or lag in import time to 6 mins. Now it takes about 15 seconds or less for importing large bookmark files....an improvement indeed for this newest build 3363.

If only now they can fix the NO FLASHING/BLINKING Cursor issue as reported Bug #DSK-292464 for Windows ME....it would make navigating throughout 10.52 easer.

I know, I'm having the same problem too, I was really surprise, but 10.5 run really well on windows me. The flashing cursor is the only reason I'm still using Firefox and Internet Explorer. Hope they get that fix soon. I taught I was the only one having this issue.

Agreed.

I had reposted this NO FLASHING CURSOR bug (Bug #292464) issue with each new build they release, hoping they would fix the problem for those of us who use Windows 98, Windows ME OS.

I now understand that they are aware of the No Flashing Cursor issue from others who have posted their observations on the matter in previous "Opera Team desktop release" forums. Some say, they think "The No Flashing Cursor" is not a priority with them as Windows ME is not supported.
But, I have raised the issue of other previous 10.5x releases that did not even install on Windows Me at all, and an OPERA TEAM member responded that WIndows ME will be addressed for the 10.5X releases. And behold ...they/he were truthful. Because now we see that Opera 10.52 does work on older OS.

But I am still bewildered as to why is little issue of No Flashing/Blinking cursor was not addressed from the beginning....still hoping they resolve this soon.

I just installed 10.52 (3370) using the Classic installer onto my Win98 First Edition system, and the flashing cursor is perfectly normal... in fact, thus far, the browser is working spectacularly well. The browsing speed on this old 400 MHz system is nothing short of phenomenal for most sites I've played with.

I'm not sure if the cursor problem has been bug-fixed, if the problem's something unique to Win98ME, or whether it's because I did a stand-alone installation using Classic. My normal custom for new Opera versions is to install them in parallel to older versions (for me, Classic works best for this) and copy-in the various customizing and personal files & subfolders from a prior version's profile folder. I've found that avoids both a lot of installer upgrade-related issues and keeps me from burning any bridges if the new version exhibits performance issues. In this case, the installation went perfect, and 10.52's performance thus far has been flawless.

In any case, thus far, 10.52 works perfectly on Win98FE.
Opera 12.14u (1738), 11.52 (1100) & 10.63 (3576) running on various Windows systems from Win7-64 down through KernelEx4-modified Win98FE (proof that reports of Win98's demise are greatly exaggerated).

Well, I just tried to install Opera v10.53 using the Classic installer on my Windows ME partition, after completely uninstalling my old version of Opera, deleting the Opera folder from the Program Files directory, and also deleting the Opera directory under WINDOWS\Application Data. Still no blinking/flashing cursor in text fields unless I hit the "Insert" key. So maybe it is something unique to 98SE/ME. Regardless, it is still a problem and still needs to be fixed.

With a HP 6736 system I am staying with OPERA 10.10. It has a tool bar across top, File thru Help, how I like it, the cursor is fine, and with this system running Windows ME lite, from 98lite, real coa on case which it asks for during install, I was glad it installed. I set up what they call MICRO ME, only about 50meg in size with win 95 explorer, I have orig disk and coa for 95 also.
About 20 sec to start up and 5 sec to turn off.
I play music in backround from VTUNER while I browse, a older WinAmp.

Just so you know, you can get the menu bar back in 10.5+. Click the menu button and, just above Exit, click Show Menu Bar.

Better yet give the big O a chance... I was aghast at first but now I think it is the cat's meow. I love how it saves me screen space.

Hello,
Does anyone have a solution for the following error when installing version 6.1 on Windows ME?
Thank you.

"Failed to load the Unicode compatibility layer OUniAnsi.dll because:
one of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found."

Taking a cue from
http://grownupgeek.com/opera-failing-load
on my PC, I navigated to
C:\Program Files\Opera\
and left-clicked opera.exe
after it finished, Opera 6.1 now starts okay (from a shortcut).

Correction to my last two posts:
I meant to write Opera version 10.61.

Version 10.62 also works on Windows ME. [I manually downloaded new version and manually installed from downloaded file (without first removing previous version).]

I had the 'Failed to load the unicode compatibility layer 0UniAnsi.dll error message pop up after running Opera 10.63 under Windows ME successfully for several months. Perhaps an update occurred (?), but it suddenly wouldn't start, giving me the error message above, even after uninstalling several times and reinstalling. So I decided to try putting the opera.dll and the 0UniAnsi.dll files where most .dll files are kept in Windows ME, which is the Windows\System folder. I copied them over from the Opera program folder, and then double-clicked on the Opera program icon to start the program. I got some kind of error message about installing Opera which I clicked shut, and then Opera came up O.K. So, for those of you trying to run Opera on Win 98 or ME, you might try giving my fix a shot.
Also, it wouldn't hurt to run some kind of Registry repair program, like WinUtilities on your old beast. It found close to a thousand errors on mine.
