2 questions about using Opera
First: I do not seem to be able to find a field where I can enter a URL directly. I'm sure it was there when I first installed Opera but whilst customising, it seems to have disappeared.Secondly: how do I set Tabs so that when I open a new tab, it defaults to my homepage?

Difficult to guess from your post whether you have turned off the address bar or just removed the field from it.
If the latter, right-click on the toolbar and reset it to the defaults from the Appearance dialogue, or drag the URL field back again.
If the former, from the big O menu, click on Settings, Toolbars, and Enable the Address bar.
Home Drag the link to the floating toolbar next to the new tab icon. Click to open your home page; hold to open the speed dial. Remove the default New tab button if you prefer this one.
