Using Opera to speed up Dialup service? or Change MSIE user agent?

A retired family member is using a dial-up service, and I'm wondering if Opera for XP desktop uses the Opera servers (as the mobile versions do) to provide a faster web surfing experience to the XP desktop users by compressing the site and sending it through to the browser.

Since this is a retired person, ideally I'd like to let her keep using Internet Explorer (I think it's 6 or 7) and be able to easily change the User Agent to identify as a mobile so she gets the smaller, "mobile" versions of websites. So if anyone knows a way to do that, it would be great--I realize this is an Opera community but maybe someone here had to deal with this before switching to Opera.

The desktop version has Opera Turbo, which is disabled by default.

I use XP and I am a dial-up customer. OPERA Turbo does enhance speed significantly but you do need to elect that in the preference tab settings for web pages. You will see an improvement in load speed but you will lose some resolution, especially in images. I do not use Turbo as default because of the resolution issues but I do opt to view some pages more quickly by electing user mode instead of author mode. The latest OPERA build that downloaded to me is somewhat faster, even without Turbo and as someone that is quite used to dial-up, find myself doing other things while waiting for loads. Choosing not to load pictures on some pages can also help speed incredibly if one is just looking to read text or navigate a page.

I hope that is helpful
