With many sites, the page 'hangs' on the last "element" and I can't access any link on that page

With many sites, when the page is loading, it stops loading hanging on what appears to be the last "element". You can scroll the page, but you usually can't click on anything or use the 'Wand' function, if available. No problem here (as usual), but it seems this is getting worse across the board.

I have to 'stop' the load to use any links on the page. When I reload the page, sometimes it will complete the process and 'load' all of the "elements", but usually it will just 'hang' again. This isn't consistent with any site. As of now, the site I visit the most is working fine. Loads completely.

What/where is the problem??

CATV modem and Verizon DSL. I believe it does it with both. No firewall (hardware or other wise), just a router that is set to 'open'.

Try enabling HTTP 1.1 in CTRL+12 -> Advanced -> network -> proxy options

Ok, I never have change any of that. The web pages I have visited since I typed the post have behaved ok. No issues (of course).
What does enabling HTTP 1.1 do? Also, why not just use 128 for the connection count?

Changing the connections from 8 to 16 caused login errors with my Verizon DSL POP mail account. I kept getting a "failed" message every time I tried to fetch messages. Changing it back solved the problem.

If you do a search you'll find that this "hanging" problems happens to lots of people (me included). It has existed for several Opera versions and still exists in 10.51.

Maybe wait for Opera 10.52. Probably it will not take much more time until it will be released as final.

Will it be addressed there? There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it. Sometimes there is no issue, others it's a real problem.

What exactly is missing that causes the page to hang?

There got a bunch of Never-Stops-Loading-Issues (NSL) fixed in the 10.52 builds. So your problem could be fixed in 10.52.

Read the last blog-entries to see that the focus is quite high on NSL-Issues.

If you're adventurous, download the 10.52 Beta. It is fast and fixes the hanging issue. I've been using it for three days now with no problems!

I've had this problem also, but only with certain sites, but quite a few. Also, one site that used to hang up seems to crash Opera 10.51, on my dell xp pro at home; it's an industry forum I go to.

What I don't understand is, one minute it's fine, the next minute (figuratively speaking), the problem resurfaces. To repeat my question;

What exactly is missing that causes the page to hang?

Dunno, but in my case pages will NSL right after I add pagead/googlesyndication to the Content Blocker. And, actually, that's pretty much the only way I can make this issue happen.

Editing the source of non-loading pages to remove the Google Analytics (usually towards the foot of the page), then Apply Changes led me to believe that Google Analytics was my main problem, so I have http://www.google-analytics.com/* entered in Blocked Content.

Pages seemed more likely to have a problem when I've had many tabs open.

I would do that as well, but it is my understanding that doing that prevents Opera from showing up in statistics.

This is so terribly annoying problem. It's there for years and I am still with Opera, but to be honest I don't know how long I will last... so many cookie problem and hanging problems. Little annoying things. I think it is almost time to give up same as with stupid sony ericcson phones. sad

ps: blocking google analytics is a very nice idea...

You can go to settings advanced content and block content to put in google analytics address so opera will ban it. Anyway many times and on many web pages google-analytics stuck in.

http://www.google-analytics.com/*
^^^^ That's what you enter in Opera's Blocked Content.

The Google Analytics is a bit of JavaScript requiring a file from outside of the domain you're browsing. It's to provide webstats to website operators who want something more, or simpler, than they get from their hosting company. For whatever reason, Opera doesn't receive the file and sits there waiting for it, unless you've told her to ignore it by using the Blocked Content instruction.

Before blocking Google Analytics I noticed that having a large number of tabs open made the problem more likely to occur, so maybe the new JavaScript engine runs out of steam more quickly?
