Ogg not suppoted?

Running under Ubuntu, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/Eyjafjallajökull.ogg does not appear to work. However,if I download the file, and just hold the mouse over the file icon (Nautilus), I hear the sound.

(If the link does not work for you try utf-8 encoding of the ö - that is o with umlaut, aka dieresis.)

Anybody knows what to do? How can I have Opera tell me what plugins it is using to open this particular file? How can I make Opera tell me what media type it thinks the linked page has?

This is my version information:

Version 10.10
Build 4742
Platform Linux
System x86_64, 2.6.31-20-generic
Qt library 3.3.8b
Java Java Runtime Environment installed

2. I wish browsers would treat audio links differently from other links: Just play the sound right away without loading a new page.

Imagine a language learning tool. How annoying having to reload the original page every time you interact with it!
When learning a language you want to hear the sound again immediately after you tried to say the word or phrase in order to compare.

Its up to the site designer to set it up properly. This works OK on Pali sampler page.

I guess what we need is a plugin to play ogg files.

Here in Windows, Opera wants to rename the file with an "ogx" extension - searching through the list of file types in Preferences > Advanced > Downloads the only type with that extension is "application/ogg". If they'd identified it as audio/ogg then Opera might have known how to play it ...

In Windows you have to use

to play Ogg, Speex, Theora & FLAC in Windows Media Player.

It's a lot better to use your Media Player rather than opera as it has control buttons.

In Linux your media player should play .ogg files. If it's say kplayer, then get opera to open it by typing kplayer in the "open with" text box for "application/ogg" & "audio/ogg". You may have both but it doesn't matter if you have one. http://kplayer.sourceforge.net

But I think it's better to ask it to download it to the hard drive rather than play it.

If you want opera to play it, use Tools>quick preferences, & enable plug-ins & sounds.

In Windows you do the above as well, but you would locate the player's exact location.

Everyone: you need to also configure .mp3, .wma(Windows Media audio), .m3u(streaming mp3).
