Opera and Java - Problem

Hello guys,

I downloaded Opera (10.51) and installed the newest Java version. According to the SUN Java tester, everything works fine.
In one forum the editor is based on java, but when I submit my reply (or try to preview it), it doesn't send any data and just deletes everything I wrote.
A friend of mine had the same problem some days ago .. he solved it by downloading the newstes java version, but that's just what I did. =(

I also deleted any java-version on my pc before I installed the new one.
I've got Windows 7 64-bit (and downloaded 64-bit version of java).

Thanks in advance,
air

Welcome to the Opera Forums. There are a lot of threads in this forum and other users may have already experienced the problem you have. At the upper right corner is a search box; it's a powerful tool. Try searching for java problems. I have posted a solution that worked for me in this thread: Java problems after installing 10.51

Hi,

thanks your your reply. I am aware of the search function and I wouldn't post and wait days if I didn't already looked for it myself. wink
I really tried different things ... deleting all Java-Installations and reinstall them, change the Java-Directory in Oper and even delete the java plugin from Mozilla Firefox (where it took it from according to opera:plugins).
Still ... it just won't work correctly.

opera:plugins tells me

I'll give it a try. Not all of the solutions that worked for me have done so for others.

If you have removed and reinstalled Java, then it should be set to the defaults. Check this first: Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Java Plug-in should be enabled.
2. Preferences (Ctrl +F12) > Advanced > Content: Enable plug-ins should be checked.
3. opera:config#Java Java should be enabled.

On this computer the Opera plug-in path in opera:config#User%20Prefs is:
C:\Program Files\Opera\program\plugins;C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\new_plugin\

The npdeployJava1.dll is the only Java plug-in I saw in Mozilla Firefox\plugins, and it's being used here:
Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.200.2
application/java-deployment-toolkit
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\npdeployJava1.dll

If you have removed it from the Mozilla plugins, then Java probably won't work in Firefox.

I have 3 plug-ins in the Java \new_plugin\ directory: msvcr71.dll (version 7.10.3052.4), npdeployJava1.dll (6.0.200.2) (same as the one in Mozilla Firefox\plugins), and npjp2.dll. (6.0.200.2)

The order of the path to Java in opera:plugins is slightly different than yours-don't know if should make a difference if all are listed.

If the above suggestions don't solve your problem, I don't have any other ideas.

Hi,

thanks for your reply.
I did check all those things - but everything seems to be okay, but it still does not work.
I also have the exact same versions of the files in new_plugins/ ..

Well, I think I'll ave to change back to my last browser then. I love the popup-blocker in Opera, but I really need a working Java more ...

remove java again then restart and run this JavaRa from here http://raproducts.org/ then reinstall java but make sure you have the offline version before uninstalling it by going here to get it http://majorgeeks.com/Sun_Java_Runtime_Environment_d4648.html and clear your opera cache before installing the new java and untick any options which may try to install useless toolbars.

Reread your original post. Java is working when you go to http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp and press the Verify Java version button or http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml You did not mention the forum that is not working correctly; not that I'm a member and would be able to test it, but someone may be. Try providing the complete address to a problem site including http://. The Opera forums will make it a clickable link.

I'm assuming that "I downloaded Opera (10.51)" means that you installed it for the first time and it was not an upgrade from previous versions. Have you upgraded from an earlier release of Windows or is Win 7 a new install? Look in \Opera\program\plugins\ and make sure there are no Java plugins present. If the Java tester indicates it is working properly, you may want to file a bug report.

I could use some help with this same problem. I installed 10.51 over 10.00 recently, and now the shopping cart on my own site (http://www.weirdorecords.com) is not working properly in Opera. Most buttons work, but not the one that allows you to begin the checkout process (the button is called 'buy this crap' on the site. I've tested the same button in IE, Chrome, Firefox & Safari & it's working fine in all of those.

I've also installed the latest Javascript & have confirmed at http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp and http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml that it is indeed the latest version and is working. When I check my Program Files/Opera/program/plugins folder I have a file called NPSWF32.dll. In Program Files/Java, I have folders for the latest install (dated 4-24) but also two folders from 2008. Is *that* what I should be deleting?

@ choope

There are no files in Opera\program\plugins - folder.
Yes, I installed Opera for the first time and also this Win7 was the first operating system on the computer.

I'm really sorry but I can't give a link to the forum as it's a forum for magicians and therefore "closed".
It works fine in any other browser and also for all the other users, so it must have to be a problem with Opera.

The Java test works completely fine ... =(

Is there any option to disable caching for one special site? In fact I could think its a caching problem, because after clearing the cache
I was able to write some text in the mentioned forum, then I hit "Preview" and it displayed the text (what it didn't yesterday). BUT the text
still disappears from the editor and, and this is the important thing: When I enter a new text again and hit "Preview" it previews the old text again.

@weirdorecords

You wrote that your Java tested ok. I tried your site: http://www.weirdorecords.com/ in 10.10 Solaris and 10.51 on Windows. The buttons in question work in 10.10 but not 10.51. Your site is using JavaScript which is not the same the same as Java programming. There is also some sloppy code used in your site. Try right-clicking on the page and select Validate or use these links: http://validator.w3.org/ http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ The doctype is not formed correctly which does cause the number of reported errors to be higher.

@Airblader

You have a clean install of Opera on a new computer. A lot of people have had problems with 10.51 when upgrading an existing installation. You can tailor how Opera behaves on a site by: 1) Settings > Quick Preferences > Edit Site Preferences, 2) F12 > Edit Site Preferences, 3) Right click and select Edit Site Preferences. I don't see an option to disable caching. You could press Ctrl + A and Ctrl + C before previewing which will select all and copy the text so you don't lose what you just wrote. But that does not solve the problem. You may want to file a bug report for this site. http://www.opera.com/support/bugs/ Opera programmers can create a site specific browser.js which automatically updates periodically. It's also possible to create your own fixes. But don't ask me how! A user's fix can be selected from Preferences > Advanced > Content > JavaScript Options.
