Again POP3 Fetching Problem - Opera 10.51
This is a RANDOM situation...
The pop3 with this kind of problems are the Freepops fetched ones.
I had this problem with Opera 9.x, 10.x and now with Opera 10.51 M2 Client.
I have already read other topics (someone is very long) but I couldn't find a real solution
(didn't I search enough?).
The problem:
- opera M2 mail seems to work fine (... "No message posted"...)
- you go to your mail web interface and you find unread/unfetched/unretrieved messages
I have 7 messages in pop3 and Opera recognizes their presence,
but considers them as already downloaded.
Opera has yet registered those emails in POP3 (even not fetched) and considers them as old.
It's like the Opera internal account counter is set beyond.
This is the log I generated using the suggestions in this http://www.opera.com/support/kb/view/710/ :

=====Logging end==============================================
It seems a problem of alignment with the Opera mail "internal ID" and the
Pop3 email ID (I'm not a specialist of pop3 mechanism).
In Opera:Config# -> Mail I have set Mail Database Consistency = 0
trying to force Opera to rebuild the mail database/indexes, but no result.
Is there a place where I can force Opera to get back the account counter/"message ID"?
Is there an utlity or work-around?

Are you saying that there are messages on the server (as verified by using a webmail interface to access the account) that are not shown in Opera?
- The messages are on server pop3 (libero.it)
- I can see them by accessing web interface
- The access to pop3 is done by Freepops (I don't know if it's important, because libero.it doesn't allow pop3 direct downloading)
- Opera says there are no new messages
- New emails keep on arriving to xxxxxxx@libero.it.
- Opera keeps on saying there are no new messages.
- As you can see in the log above, Opera sees 7 emails accessing the pop3, but doesn't download them.
- PROBABLY considers them as "OLD"...
- The emails state by web interface is = "not yet read"
That's all!
Any solution for reading these "OLD" emails?

O.K., understood now. Thanks.
Have you tried with the latest 10.52 snapshot (the windows version at least is very stable) using a fresh profile (as in, not upgrading)? It'd be good to know if things work fine that way or not.

Not sure if Freepops is the problem, but it might be. Haven't seen Opera have this problem with a regular pop3 server.
Did you try searching google for problems with freepops and libero.it? Try using Thunderbird or Sylpheed instead?

It would be weird for Opera to think that the messages have already been fetched even though they really haven't. But, anything is possible. It could indeed by an ID issue.
Ignoring the log for a second, are you sure the new messages aren't in All Messages/Received somewhere (perhaps out of order) and marked as read for some odd reason?

Not yet

The couple Opera/Freepops generates this problem. I access 3 account with Freepops and I have the problems with these ones (happened in different times).
It's a rare and random problem...

No problem between Freepops and Libero.it, because if I create a fresh/new Opera account, it works (already done in the past).

No, there aren't!

I think it's the right way for the solution!
I think the solution could be to reset, in some way, the internal conter/ID of account in Opera Mail (if it exists).

It has been suggested to me that freepops could be reusing UIDLs, which might cause the problem.
Deleted the repeated account and all messages where deleted
(fortunately they were not important
)I can't find a way to move the messages from the old account to the
new duplicated one because the linking is automatic .
Any idea?
Could it be a work around?

That's good.

Yeh, for pop accounts, it's supposed to do that. It even warns yo when you delete the account with "Locally stored messages for this account will be removed."

What do you mean by "linking is automatic"?
Goto file -> import and export (or O menu -> settings -> import and export) -> import mail.
If you use the Opera 7/8/9/10 importer, you can import your accounts settings and messages no problem. However, doing it that way may just reproduce the id problem. Instead, you should try without "import settings". Or, instead, try the generic mbox import. The generic one won't import filters etc. And, if you have any messages left on the server, before you do the importing, you may get duplicates in the new Opera (the imported ones and the same ones fetched from the server). So, make sure you don't have any messages left on the server before doing the importing.
I suggest setting up a Gmail account and using Gmail IMAP. Then, you won't have to worry about this. Further, if something gets messed up in Opera, you just delete the account and set it up again. No importing or anything like that to worry about. (Not that you shouldn't still investigate the freepops issue if you want)
Thank you very much for your support!!!
I used the "old" way:
- recalled the misfunctioning account as OLD
- deselected the possibility of fetching new emails by this account
- created a new one!
Now I have 2 "old" accounts
I think Opera should develop some tools to manage advanced settings/reparing of opera mail (isn't it a kind of database?)
Thank you very much, again!
Bye
