External links problem when opera is closed

Hello, Just to share a problem with you. When I try to open a link form my mail.app when opera is closed. The opera browser starts but it shows up the speed dial page. Instead of the page I clicked on.

Yes, this happens in 10.10 at least and is fairly annoying.

Apparently there are multiple ways to send the message in OS X and Opera can handle launch and go to URLs sent from some apps while failing in others. In some cases the resulting behavior is a little bizarre. I first noticed this problem in 9.50 betas and it was fixed when 9.50 went final. It showed up again during the beta phase of v10 and was not corrected until at least a couple "final" builds had been released. I can't dispute Nicd's observation regarding his experience, but I can say that 10.10 is launching correctly for me from all apps, including the ones which had previously failed. However, the problem does exist again in all currently available builds of 10.5x, and, yes, it is a major aggravation that makes it very frustrating to use as the default browser.

Yet again, Opera releases a "Final" build with this bug. What a shame!

There are at least three ways of opening a link. Does it work for your guys when you have Opera set as the default browser, and then type open http://www.opera.com in Terminal.app?

Yes, it works from terminal, it also works from Netbeans, Yahoo Messenger and Finder (both from the Finder Window and webloc icons on the Desktop). It does not work with PowerMail or Vienna (newsreader) or PathFinder. This seems consistent with how this bug affected version 10.0 before it was fixed.

(EDITED to add this note)

I filed a bug report and some follow-up information about it regarding version 10.00. That was bug DSK-262563 in case anyone might find this useful.

The latest development snapshot should contain a fix for this issue. If anyone wants to test, you can grab the latest build from our blog.
