Civilisation

Which societies can be described as truly civilised? Sometimes, amidst barbarism and brutishness, a culture shows a spark of unexpected glory that uplifts the human spirit and can only be divinely inspired.
Have you any examples of this?
Today, in the U.S., is National Jelly Bean Day.

I don't have any examples of anything divinely inspired, no.

Where is this culture of barbarism and brutishness, btw?

Well, from an opressive country to a democratic constitution. One of the most brutal policies was brought down by talks! Sout Africa, proudly Mzansi.
Keep it simple. Tizz.

Pray tell, what does it tell you?

You don't really believe that there is such a day in the US, do you? If you do, that tells us more about you than we want to know.

Think about it.

Clues: there is a National Hot Dog Day and a National Haggis Day, oh, and a National Tartan Day.

It's St George's Day here today, I'm told.

My guess is Museatlantis meant aborigines. I'm from the country, so I'm one of them (one of aborigines, though not Australian). I look up to civilisation.

In the civilised world, this might sound like a fair bet. But I'm not civilised enough to do bets.

One of the first civilizations to make rules that protected all people within it's borders with one law applicable to all people within it's borders. Equal justice and protection of citizens including foreigners and servants was the Israeli nation.

Hammurabi the sixth king of Babylon from 1792 BC to 1750, is credited with a codified law, that is a law that is in written form and not by the changing whim's of decree of a King. Though technically not divinely inspired.

The American Constitution of the first government to freely allow practice of Religion and non practice of Religion, and equal treatment of all, noting that definition all was eventually extended. The American Constitution codified many Judea-Christian principles can arguably be called divinely inspired.

Oh dear. Mosaic law and equal justice and protection? Did you ever actually bother to read the damn book? faint

Back on topic. Melbourne, one of the world's most livable cities, takes a day off every year for a horse race.

He can't of course.
All he can do is point out the "Creator" part and attach his fundamentalist judeo-christian beliefs to it.

I'm not so sure about Jefferson but Franklin definitely was a pastafarian: "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." cheers
