Improvements in the Find bar
The new (Ctrl + F) find bar is much better than the pop-up style find box that came default with earlier versions. Still, I think it could be better.1. If you're using so much space for the find bar you might as well supply more information without any increase in interface clutter. More info like: i of n, with i being the ordinal position of the highlighted sample word being searched for and n being the total no. of occurrences of the word. (as in 4 of 17)
2. There could also be a horizontal representation of the long webpage like an empty textfield with some vertical lines or bands where the word to be found occurs. This would give a good idea of where the word is... although many people would not find this very helpful.
3. I would really prefer if the find bar popped up at the bottom without disturbing the reader much. I would also prefer if it were thinner.
What do you guys think.
That said, for number 3: right-click the UI somewhere, Customise, Appearance (or just press Shift+F12 and select the Toolbars tab). Tick "Show hidden toolbars when customising". Select the "Find in page" bar, and set its placement to "Bottom" then "Off".
The thing about Opera is; if you don't like the way something works, you can use an alternative method.
Showing where the words pop up lower on a long page with dashes in the scrollbar is a nice feature, but the need for it isn't really common enough for it to be deemed necessary.
@benryves : I changed the find in page bar to pop up at the bottom..and I'm much happier now.
@ dertbox :yes, actually dashes in the scrollbar would be much better than what I proposed. One of the many reasons I like opera is the way you can change its behaviour to suit your own taste.

It works fine for me. Type f <search string> in the URL field to find in page. Check in Preferences, Search for the key word.

For example, I have a keyboard shortcut "Ctrl Right" which when pressed find the next word. Unfortunately, since the new find bar, this doesn't work anymore. After pressing "/", the find bar is selected which means that the keyboard shortcut doesn't work anymore. I have to move the mouse to select the page again and then my shortcuts work again (I could also wait 5 seconds for the find bar to close).
It might sound lazy to not to want to move the mouse but it really helps speed up surfing.
I wish opera would either fix this, or give us the old "/" find pop up back.

Use F3 — that works even while the find popup toolbar is displayed. It disappears after about 3 seconds here.

On my opera, F3 only shows all selected instances but does not jump to the next item.
All found instances are highlighted. The currently active selection is shown in green, the others are highlighted in yellow. The page will move to bring the currently selected item into view.
If ctrl g is not working for you, check the settings in Preferences, Shortcuts, Keyboard setup. It works for me if I select the default keyboard setup.
Ctrl right won't work, because that will move to the next word in the search string field on the find toolbar.

You can — as you discovered you can use F3 or any other shortcut (as long as it is not already used in the "Edit widget" context.
Look again at the Keyboard setup dialogue. If you type "right ctrl" in the quick find field you can see where it is already used, and for what purpose. In the edit widget context, "right ctrl" is used for "next word." When you open the toolbar and start typing the search string, the cursor is in the "Edit Widget" context.
If you understand how to use context properly you can nearly always get the result that you want. It is a bit complex, but that's what gives Opera so much power and flexibility.

2. +1
3. +1
I don't resist any method to show the bar. But it is now disabling the use of spatial navigation, the feature that only Opera has. Hope it will soon be at least partially supported again, at least shift+arrows.
It turns out that whatever you searched for previously, it still available for new tabs or other windows until you put in a new search.
For example, if you're searching for "waterfall"
Then if you go to a totally different tab, you simply press "ctrl g" and it will find the next occurrence of "waterfall"
That saves a lot of time!
Hi there, greetings everybody : ) I used to be a Chrome user formerly, but I'm getting rather anti google these days because of their zilch regard for privacy.. X_X
anyway.. I'm surprised why I didnt start using Opera AGES ago.. And I'd love to see Opera walk all over Chrome soon : D..
lets start with the Find bar.. we've already got "Highlighting" of the number of instances where the text shows up... how about add one small piece of code to "Count" the same? : ) that really comes in handy!
