Mail Panel in Opera by default

hi My request is have the mail panel in Opera's panel bar by default so all users can see it, just like how the Widget panel is present by default. By doing this, more people can find out about and eventually use one of Opera's best features. smile

On the left is an idea of what a normal user would see if they were not using Opera's M2.

+1 fantastic idea! This will allow the mail feature to gain more notice since I most likely believe it is unknown of firstly and secondly people need an email client on hand and easy to use.

There are still a few wrinkles in the email client (RTF please) but even so I prefer it to gmail and other webmail clients and I'm always surprised at how few Opera users know it exists.

+1 totally agree. In addition I think that would be great if designers will find a way to use the all the beautiful new icons ( mail, download, history, ecc...) in other ways. Here's my suggestion: http://my.opera.com/darklink88/blog/how-to-take-more-advantage-of-the-new-icons-in-opera-10-6

-1 Mail is already prominent in the Menu it would just add clutter for new users & everybody who doesn't use Opera mail.

To people not using Opera as an email client, it's annoying not to be able to use the menu for feeds.

I think you could also make an mandatory (promoted) quick review or guide first time Opera is used, or just open a window with introducing videos (like iTunes does the first time in any new version -even if you've just made an update)...

That would also spare these communities / forums and Opera Bug Team for many unnecessary request etc. rolleyes

so don't enable them. the request is about mail icon only showing up in the panel bar when you already have an account whereas the widget icon is there by default (so people may learn about widgets, but not the mail client). If you don't enable the panel bar you'll see neither of those items anyway.

I don't really get why this is such a popular suggestion, it makes no difference to anyone aside from future users.

well, the basic idea is that people will see the mail icon when they open the panel which may lead them to try out the mail client.

The hope is to push the email client. More users of the mail client --> more emphasis on the mail client for future development.

@dertbox: I don't get your logic. It's somewhat the whole meaning of advertisement (what essentially showing the mail panel icon without having an account set up is) to get future users

I really don't want to veer the topic off course, but it doesn't add anything to Opera, it doesn't make any difference to any of the people that have typed +1 (me included). While yeah, it'll tell new users about a feature they might otherwise have missed until they get to grips with Opera's workings, it's not a focus of Opera, and imo shouldn't be bought to everyone's attention until it's 100% perfect. RTF for the mail client is far more important than this.

It's just a bit of an odd suggestion to me that it should get so much support.

In the real world, almost nothing is ever 100 percent perfect. Improvements to the mail client would be more likely to happen in my opinion if the mail client was more featured by Opera. If more users would adopt the M2 client due to its more prominent placement on the Panel, how is that a bad thing?

Also, and perhaps unrelated, need to make IMAP folders = Opera filters in specific case of Gmail users. Have been waiting for this for a very long time... sad
