Why does it matter whether or not the author minds? Isn't it up to the user?

Ok, repeat one more time.
- Download the widget file to your computer
- Rename the file from Widget_Basketball_4575-1.6.wgt to Widget_Basketball_4575-1.6.zip
- Unpack the file to a folder, there'll be three new folders and two files
- Replace the file js/main.js with this one
- Upload all the files and folders from this new folder to some directory on your wordpress site, say YOURSITE.COM/basketballwidget/
- Now you can insert the widget into your homepage with the following code:
<object data="http://YOURSITE.COM/basketballwidget/index.html" width="100%" height="400px" type="text/html" ></object>
- Replace YOURSITE.COM with the address of your site
- You can change the width and height values in the above code to whatever you like
That seems to be it.
