My mail disappeared

There's no mail now in "Unread," and there used to be a lot. "Received" says "(0 read 7836 total)", but none of them are showing.

My mail comes in via POP from gmail and att.net.

I tried sending a test message to/from a gmail account, via Opera. It appeared to go through normally, and it shows up in the gmail page online, but neither the sent nor the received message showed up in Opera mail.

RSS is working normally.

I don't know what set this off. Perhaps it was because I put the computer in sleep mode without shutting down Opera??? In any case, nothing happened right before I noticed that the mail was gone.

I'm using 10.51, but I've had it for a while (this didn't happen directly after an upgrade).

Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks, but that didn't work. I changed the view settings to the ones in the picture, but there's still no mail showing up.

Does anyone have any more ideas on this?

I think the mail may still be sitting on my computer.

In Local Disk --> Users --> Username --> Local --> Opera --> Opera --> Mail there's a file called omailbase.dat which is over 10 MB. Is that the mail?? If so, how can I get it back into the browser?

I've been a long-time user of Opera -- over 10 years. But I'm not very technologically proficient and I'm baffled by this problem. I don't want to have to go to another mail reader, but I may have to if I can't solve this.

search your computer for a file called "accounts.ini" . It *should* be in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera\mail (the "appdata" directory may be hidden)

If you find that file, there should be a directory called "store", in which your emails should be (if they are still on your disc). All .mbs files in that directory would be messages.

Try to locate these files and then say where you found them. We'll then help you get them back into Opera.

You don't say what happened just before the mail disappeared. Had you just upgraded? If so, this thread may prove enlightening...

WildEnte, I found the accounts.ini. It's in C: -- Users -- (my name) -- Local -- Opera -- Opera -- mail.

I found the Store folder in the same directory. It looks like it's got all my email accounts in it (whew!)

John, I don't know what happened. Nothing special seemed to have happened, at least not that I can recall. I hadn't just upgraded when this happened -- I had upgraded at least a few days, probably longer, before.

Thanks so much for your help!

Alright! when you type opera:about in your address bar, what does it say about your email directory? Is it the same as the one with the accounts.ini?

In any case, it's a good time to back up that entire directory you found. By the way, you can edit any of the .mbs files in the store folder with a text editor of your choice, these are your emails.

In the Mail panel on the left, right click and check what "Show Messages From" is set to.Should be "All Accounts" if you want to see everything.

OMG! It was set to show only "News accounts." I have no idea how that happened!

Thanks so much! Everything is back to normal now.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
