Broadcasting Live Events Using Opera Unite And Flash Video Streaming tutorial
Greetings ,After having to much time On my hands... I took it upon myself to figure out how to configure OperaUnite to stream live Events in flash video. At first I was not even sure if OperaUnite could be used in this manner, because the webserver Application Is Only a simple webserver. After doing some research on the Internet I found that I would need two other things to stream flash video besides Opera unite.
The first thing that I would need was a Flash media encoder. I was overjoyed to fine that I could get one for free and the adobe web site.. go here to download the encoder>>> Flash Media Encoder[/ this will find and hook up to your web cam or other video source and supply you with a flv encoded stream to send to a flash media server.
Unlike the windows media encoder the adobe encoder does not give you a option to stream to a local port. You can ether download some open source flash media server software that will take a degree in computer science to configure on you own machine or you must subscribe to a flash media server which is the easier softer way.
One Such Company that I found www.serverroom.us
Serverroom.us
With over 2 billion internet users and 200 million users in North America alone, had the perfect plan to suit my needs starting a 9.95 a month !! with ten connects and 800 mb bandwidth can't beat the deal . and set up is two easy (I only caught one error in there directions use one rather that two slashes in the rtpm address to read "/live" not "/live/" or the encoder would not connect to there server and you will get a connect error in the encoder. the koolest thing they have is a no brainer embed code writer for the player on their site for technologically challenged people like me . You can get a free 48 hour Demo account to test with. They have both live phone and online chat tech support . I think that these people will work well with the OperaUnite Community. I thought you might want to know that they are a green company which means that they use solar power or they are thinking about using Eco-friendly stuff to run there servers or something. They now use only certified Eco-friendly hardware that has been manufactured according to RoHS standards. A piece of legislation passed by the European Union
Once you have made your embed code for your player ( you can test it there and see your self live) copy the player code to you html page and stream your event live for the world to see. Now if you were to say put opera Unite in a 4g wireless laptop and had a web camera you could go on site and stream live events like a TV station crew. Think about sports, racing, corporate events and a pay pal button on you streaming site
(hint,hint)
here is the link to my test site . you will have to catch me where I have the system online.
RomDos's Kool livingroom web cam flash video streem
Cheers!!
P.S. everyone please use this thread to post things you have done with flash streaming problems you have had and methods for streaming flash video that you have found worked for you on your Unite web site....

Yes , Your are right
I should Have made the tutorial really, really simple for the technologically challenged Opera Users and On-line kids.
This is the Simple Short Form of the above post on how to Broadcast A Live Event using Flash media OperaUnite webserver .
1. Write a html page first. . One that you would like to place your embedded flash player on. This can be created in note pad or any other html editor.
2. Download ,and learn to use and configure the Free Adobe Flash Media 3.1 encoder ( also mentioned and linked in the previous Post) according to the directions of the Flash media server service you have signed up to.( or if you are a real geek, install any one of a number of open source Flash media servers on your computer.)
3. embed your player on the page that you will be using to stream your media(most likely your flash media server service will provide you with the embed code.)
4.Save your html page to your OperaUnite web server folder directory
5. Start and connect the Adobe Flash Media Encoder 3.1>> to your>> flash media server service. ( or your in-line flash media server that you have installed on your computer.)
6. Bring your html page with the embedded page up to test and you should see and hear your Broadcast live.. if you did everything right.... if not you will get a black screen till you config it correctly.
Sorry about the first post ... I forgot in the excitement of success, that some computers can get overloaded if you try to feed them to much info at one time !!! rofl
Cheer!!
P.S. I may do a flash video on how to config this as a show and tell day for the on-line kids and post it as a visual guide and aid ... links to every thing you need are in my first post.....
