when I click to open an image, about 20 tabs are opened (without image) and cant stop it!

Hello all

This is a very bizarre problem, which is now starting to really annoy me.

When I'm surfing a website, and I click on an image to open a full-sized image -- such as on this page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Illu_lymph_chain03.jpg -- Opera goes weird. It proceeds to open around 15-20 empty tabs. There's nothing I can do to stop Opera from opening all these extra tabs. So after waiting around 30 seconds, I have to close each opened tab one by one and I still don't have the full-sized image that I wanted to see.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

Thanks.

No problem here. Your configuration may be messed up.

Try deleting or moving operaprefs.ini in your \profile\ folder and restart Opera. That will reset the defaults. You will have to change again any preferences you have changed since installing Opera.

See Help, About Opera for the location of your profile folder.

Used to be a common problem from time to time. You can fix it under Preferences > Advanced > Downloads.

One (or more) of the file types associated with JPEG images has been changed you need to change it back. Under Preferences (Alt-P) > Advanced > Downloads, uncheck the box that says "Hide file types opened with Opera" then use the quick find to locate "jpg". You should probably find 3 file types, image/jpg, image/jpeg and image/pjpeg. Select each in turn and click on Edit, make sure that "Open with Opera" is selected and click OK for each, after that click OK in preferences and now the link will work fine.

The usual cause of this problem is that you clicked on some sort of a download link (such as they have on Flickr and Smugmug) and then tried to tell Opera to open the file instead of saving it, causing the setting to be changed to either "Open with default program" or "Open with other program" (and Opera set as the other program). Obviously don't do that in the future - if you get an Open/Save dialog for a file that Opera can open, you will have to save the file first.
