Chat panel selection greyed out in Opera on ubuntu

I installed Opera in ubuntu lucid RC 10.04 specifically to use the chat panel for IRC discussions.

However, when I go to Appearance to turn on the Chat panel, I cannot select its box as it is greyed out. How do I get access to chat so I can use IRC in Opera?

BTW, the Opera on my Windows machine does not have this issue.

you need to setup a chat account first go to tool>Mail and Chat accounts... (alt+t>m)
