What’s going fine with Opera : things you love and which works nice

Hello,

Sometimes it's good to open topics about what we love : we oftenly think about opening topics about what's going wrong, and do not think about the same to tell about what's going fine.

There is a thing I love a lot, this is the page search, which became a lot nice with the last version, and which even works properly in page which have parts with the Content Editable attribute set. If the ContentEditable element has the focus, then page search searches there and in all child elements. I do not know another browser which is able to do it so good.

Up to you : What's your “I love it” of the day ? smile

newbie here where to download adblock for opera any links?

The three things that have always kept me with Opera more than anything else are the integrated notes and email client as well as the ability to change the interface to look exactly how I want it to look.

If we're talking about since the 10.5 series, my two faves are the incredible speed and how the address bar fills in the correct address when I start to type it.

So much to love about Opera...

Mouse gestures. I love mouse gestures, I find myself trying to use them in internet explorer!
Built in email client - I have 5 email addresses and it makes my life so much easier.
Spell checking - I cannot spell, never could, used to drive my teachers insane!
The Links panel - some websites make it so hard to find links (mystery meat navigation)
Speed Dial - wonderful idea that seems to have spread to other browsers now but none of them do it as well as Opera.

I could go on and on and.... bigsmile

Try Tamil's Blog or just right click on the page with the annoying ads and select block content, then click on the ones you don't want.
A straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting.

Opera 12.16 build 1860 on Windows 8 (and I'll be sticking with version 12 and not 'upgrading')

What he said. Go in to block mode click on the imag/gif/frame and voila! If it doesn't block it try the same thing but with shift (shift+click on the image/gif/frame).

AdBlock may soon not be necessary any more : as ads funding goes down with time, many site are planning to requires payment to access their content.

You will not need AdBlock anymore, you will just have to pay.

What I like about Opera...........
Little things like the ability to customize right click menus (and the O button menu), ability to choose tab behavior. One of my favorite features is "click to minimize tab", and I'm constantly trying to use it in other apps. Customizable toolbars, etc.
And then there's the Email client, Notes, Panels, the Wand .....

Things I like in Opera:

1. mouse gestures - I use it as Forward and Back replacements smile the best thing
2. notes
3. images display button - sometimes very useful, and was unbelievable useful while on slow Dial-Up connections
4. site loading speed - (getting a bit slower in recent Opera versions)
5. speed dial
6. fast start-up
7. Unite - cool thing... I don't use it daily, but it works really good, I guess it's mostly interesting as simple photo/file sharing solution
...

xx. create search function - brilliant smile)

etc smile

Yes yes

Even Windows XP does not comes with such a fundamental functionality : notes management.

This one of the things among with integrated mail client, which makes me say : Opera's a Web Desktop !

This is clever.. when you’re on the web... you use mail. Opera team says : let’s integrate a web client, a browser the first good place for that. When you’re on the web, you read a lot, write a lot, you have thoughs, you have to keep notes. Opera team says : let’s give it quick notes management.

Clean and logical.

Indeed, mouse gestures and speed dial, although embedded for long in Opera, are still at the time of today, innovative and visionary features. Just a few other applications have the same. I use to read some papers about ergonomy, talking about similar ideas and the reasons why this should be good... but still not implemented in numerous applications which should do. Opera did it.

I've seen notes mentioned many times, but there is one thing in it thats absolutely beautiful aside from synchronization/backup system, that I did not know for quite a time and I have had several links clumped in my notes.

I refer to the ability to create note from a text on a web page, by highlighting it. It creates new note, but additionally if you double click that note, it takes you to that original site. I love that!

I love the perfectly fluid mouse-gestures. No jitter and nonsense. I also love the sexy look. The screen-dimming search is also sweet.
Opera turbo is awesome too. It saves 80% of costs on my pay-by-megabyte plan.

If they didn't make them so annoying and deceiving we wouldn't be needing to block them. So it's their fault. Look at Google Ads for the example of non-intrusive and relevant ads.

Put it all together and what have you got? The best browsing experience bar none.

Being able to set a different style sheet for a site - love this feature! A forum I visit regularly has just had an 'upgrade' that makes it look not so good and has the fonts far too small. But thanks to Opera I've got it looking almost like it used to smile

Opera Link, giving me access to my notes, bookmarks and search engines whether I'm at home, the office or using my mobile phone.
The previously mentioned mouse gestures, which work simply and reliably.
The source viewer, which allows you to quickly edit the HTML and update a page on the fly (invaluable for debugging). Dragonfly is excellent for when you need finer control, of course.
The "Open with" menu which allows you to quickly check a site you're working on in the different browsers installed on your system.
The highly customisable user interface.

Really, there are very many different things in Opera (some small, some large) that add up to make it the best user experience by far. It's all the little details that make Opera special, I find.

Love the Dragonfly/Inspect Element.

Love that the internal JavaScript(?) seems to work better with certain website tab interfaces.

And I really like the elegance of the way the tabs appear when I double-click the tab bar ... they kind of appear from the left and extend or "grow" to the right. Very nice. smile

The new format for the small illustrations in the Speed Dial is nicer in Opera 10.6, the format is more aesthetic (subjective feeling) and more close to the ratio of a page as displayed on a screen (more objective feeling).

I like Opera Unite — very handy for sharing large files with more than one user.

Web Fonts support opens up a whole new range of possibilities for web design.

The new interface with transparent tabs saves a lot of space, so I can afford to use large icon skins.

The find in page toolbar no longer obstructs the page, and is more useful than the popup.
