10.5.2: No go--still crashes on launch
I continue to have same difficulty with earlier test candidates, Opera 10.5.2 official crashes on launch. When launched I get an Opera menu in upper left corner on my MacBook Pro (running Snow Leopard 10.6.3) but no page opens. When I select quit the crash reporter comes up. Opera 10.10 continues to work fine. Before launching new app I threw away all preferences, application support entries, and caches. That didn't help either.
Suspect that Opera is being done in by some other application running on my machine, but don't know how to find out which one.
~/Library/Application Support/Opera/
~/Library/Caches/Opera/
~/Library/Preferences/com.operasoftware.Opera.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.operasoftware.OperaWidgets.plist
~/Library/Preferences/Opera Preferences/
If Opera runs fine after deleting these files and folders, then please spend some time investigating which one caused the problem. Quit Opera and restore the files one at a time. When you have identified which one causes the problem, please email it in so that we may investigate what caused the crash and fix it.
If you submitted an Opera crashlog, then you may also send me a private message with a link to this forum thread and the email address you put into the crash submitting dialog.
I hope this will solve your problem, and thank you for taking the time to help us troubleshoot this issue.
Have tried loading Opera without login items (shift pressed down during login) and no change in behaviour.
Closing opera triggers crash reporter as for embeal.
Running 10.6.3 on MacPro (2x 2.66 Xeon) and on MBPro (2.6 CoreDuo).
Anyone got suggestions on what to do to find out what is going on?
If it does work in the Guest account, then you must have a third party application running (maybe as a background proces?) that is interfering with Opera’s startup. Please try to disable all running applications and helper applications? Check in under System Preferences: Users: Your account: Login Items too see a list of helpers that start when your machine does.
If you figure out which one it is, then let us know about it so we can investigate and get it fixed. Thank you for your time and assistance in this wild bug chase!
…
I do find this in my console.log, which might explain the dysfunctional menu:
2010-04-27 22:45:46.384 Opera[12350] *** -[NSMenuItem setCommand:]: selector not recognized [self = 0x88c8c30]
2010-04-27 22:45:46.384 Opera[12350] *** NSTimer discarding exception '*** -[NSMenuItem setCommand:]: selector not recognized [self = 0x88c8c30]' that raised during firing of timer with target 35c540 and selector 'timeout:'
Curiously, when I try Opera 10.52 on my dual-G5 at work, which is basically running a clone of my laptop's environment (so also under 10.4.11), the app launches normally. It also behaves normally, except that about any kind of text entry is slow to an extent I've never seen before; each keystroke takes a number of seconds to have effect, with the beachball entertaining me during the wait.
I've sent bug reports about both issues.

Will do - but fact that it works on other macs in the office suggests it will. It looks very much like it is a clash in my configuration that is causing it - because it doesn't work on my laptop either (and desk top / laptop have very similar configurations).

Surely. But that's what I did when I started with login items disabled... and it still doesn't allow Opera to run. Presumably there is something loading at start up that is messing up Opera - but not clear what this is, or how to easily disable such applications. Do you know a way I can do this - if so please let me know. Uninstalling all possibly candidates for having something load during the boot process seems like a difficult job - maybe if there is a way for me to find out what these apps are I can narrow the search down?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
I have this problem too.
I installed the 10.52 with my regular user account and it works fine, but not with other user accounts including system administrator whose password was required in the install at the first place.
It just crashes right on, every time. Very annoying. I will not do a single thing to fix this, if it does not work, i´ll just use Firefox.
We do appreciate any help that helps us fix this for our next release.
OSX's crash report button says WidgetInitLibrary crashed.
The three user accounts have different history settings and LittleSnitch settings, otherwise they're similar.

I was just planing to switch from chrome, but honestly i'm confused about such behaviour, i already invested 2 hours. And as a non expert i'm not able or willing to start debugging and stop oder jobs, nor do i have a clue how to "rebuild" my account without to much trouble.
I did one thing, reinstalled the backup of opera from time machine (Version 10.10) and this version works. After this i tried to upgrade on 10.52 and 10.53 which did not work. Obviously it has to do with the latest versions. Stll strange that it use to work a few hours before.
cprimero: you mention that you installed some widgets. Do you get Opera's crash reporter or the system one? Please send me a message with a link to this discussion thread, the email address you provided in the crash dialog, and if possible: the names of the widgets you installed?
On my end I finally got Opera 10.5.3 working after weeks of grief trying to get Alphas, Betas & Release Candidates working to no avail. My problem was that I have iGlasses installed on my computer, which was causing a conflict. I went into the iGlasses Manager and unchecked Opera. Voilà, low and behold Opera 10.5.3 launch! Do not know how the hell I stumbled upon this fix but it works.
iGlasses & Opera 10.5.3 seems to be a no-no! I hope his helps some of yous who have been having issues.

I started over, because I already restored a clone to get back to Opera 10.10. This time I installed 10.5.2 to a clone. I always install in the Admin account, don't open Opera in that account, then go to user accounts.
Same result. Opera 10.5.2 opened fine in the first user account, and refused to open in two other accounts.
Disabling LittleSnitch made no difference.
I tried a safe boot and safe login (No LittleSnitch, no Steermouse). Same result.

1. Backup your computer (for example using Time Machine)
2. Download the snapshot and run it
3. If it works properly, try right-clicking Opera and choose Show Package Contents
4. Go to Contents/Resources/ and delete the file PrefsSuffix
5. Run it again (this will upgrade your install, bringing back bookmarks and settings)
Please report back if any of your are still encountering problems.
