Open new tab behaviour
Hi,I'm using Opera 10.52 on Win XP 32bit. Currently using the option "Open new tab next to active".
I'd like to request an expansion on that option, which is to have successive new tabs open next to the newly open tab(s), rather than the active tab.
Example: Say you have 5 tabs open, and you're on the 3rd tab, which is say, YouTube. You middle click a link, and the tab will open to the right of the 3rd tab, as normal. But say you want to watch a video which is split into 4 parts, you would normally middle click the 1st-4th links in sequential order, but it would be part 4,3,2,1 (in reverse order) in the tabs. Could you make it so that if you open multiple tabs like that, it'll open to the right of the newly opened tab? Could you make it a new option rather than forced, unsure if others would like this.
Thanks!
Programmatically I think it would be difficult for Opera to tell if the tab next to the active tab, is somehow related to the active tab or not... it would have to carry along a variable like "opened from: # tab"... then it could look for that variable, etc... but... if you do that, then it means if you start closing tabs randomly, or start drag&dropping tabs to re-order them yourself, Opera now has to step through all the tabs, and update those variables... that is, if those parent/linked tabs still exist.
I suppose one possible solution would to have a modifier, like, a normal click/mouse wheel... opens next to active (when that's enabled) but Ctrl+, or Shift+ etc... would temporarily (while pressed) revert to the standard "open next to last tab" or whatever...
But really... just click them in reverse order...

Programmatically (I'm no programmer, but just guessing), couldn't you have it detect whether the tab to the right is new (with the blue dot), and based on that, have new tabs open after the latest new tab? Of course, that's a sloppy way to go about it since it's possible to have new tabs to the right which weren't opened from the active tab, though it's a situation I rarely have. Just a thought.Wouldn't an easier solution be to just remember that... and click links in reverse (4,3,2,1)?

Another thought, which would fix another issue that I just remembered, have the links opened in new tabs WITH referral information. Then you can use that condition to get it working. From what I recall, links in new tabs don't hold referral info. For added effect, base the condition of opening tabs to the right in sequential order on both referral info of the tab(s) to the right AND if it's a new tab (blue dot).
Yeah, I thought someone would mention clicking links in reverse, but just wanted to put it out there.

However, there still one problem in "Open next to the newly open tab(s)" (at least for me) ...
*A B C D (Here we got four tabs, focus on Tab A, and Tab A contained 8 related links I wanna open ...) *A A1 A2 A3 A4 B C D (as introduce "Open next to the newly open tab(s)" and "in background", 4 tabs related to Tab A opened) A *A1 A2 A3 A4 B C D (then we focus on Tab A1, read and closed one by one, unfortunately finally we'll focus at Tab B :( ) A *B C D (I'd prefer finally focused on Tab A, as I'll continue open the rest 4 links in Tab A)
The feature is "Close and activate the LEFT tab.", this combine with "Open new tab next to active" works perfectly.
I would like Opera stronger tabbing features, no matter "Open next to the newly open tab(s)" or "Close and activate the LEFT tab"...

Quick update about your version, I would recommend to update your 10.5x version to 10.53.

Go check out Opera 11.10 Mobile&Mini now!

Thanks Vectronic...
However, visit tabs in reverse order is not a good idea in some cases.
Some of the linked pages are related and in sequence,
and mostly I faced a problem, last clicked tab is not completely loaded but the 1st clicked tab is ready for visit.
If visit the last clicked tab first, I need to wait for it.
(waiting.... it's not a bad stuff if not in rush, just tell myself... time to relax, 5 secs...
